Totally on same page.
Thought putting a bushing inside the wedge might work as well, as oversizing the hole, but with crush protection as well.
Just a little brain storming between minds. Who knows , maybe with others we can come up with a fool proof idea for this fragile material.Mike

I'm a few pages behind, but I heard that amber can crystallize further and just disintegrate into powder if stored near some substances. Don't remember what those substances were though. Might be worth researching before spending a lot of time on it.

Okay well Im waiting on supplies so I figure Ill start in on this project... My supreme project of which I am overtly excited about... A Weekend Joseph Rodgers Set.
I gotta run out to a birthday party so gotta keep this short just wanted to stop in and say hello, and get these picks on.. Im going to have to replace both ivory tangs as the one broke off and the other is close to it. When I received it in the mail it was broken..
Gonna try to keep what Im gonna do a secret until I have results to show. But Ill document the process well! It is going to be glorious!!!
Have a great night gentlemen!“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

Thanked: 4206Good point on the inter-reaction between components Harold. I've been on lapidary site's for a while learning about various aspects of grind, facet, etc. and as far as I've learned so far, Amber reacts with strong UV rays, acetone, MEK, and solvents but not most of the materials we hold near and dear in the razor world.
If sealed, and waxed on occasion to maintain seal, it should hold up as long as the razor itself with brass, steel, silver or horn.
Tom, did you already make wedges from amber and use some of babur's washers on the set?
Look forward to the pics.
Home from dinner, full of turkey, white wine, gawg!, and a desire to go shape some amber and horn. Still shaking off the last of this crappy cold I had last week as well. Sis loved the mill, and fed plenty for the 32 folks that came to dinner. Played a game of softball first in the park to wett our whistles, Bolton side won!! So I'm in a festive kinda mood.
Lots to give thanks for this year happily, and you lads are a part of that!

Happy Thanksgiving, Mike!
Never did that on amber, but have on some thin ivory with thin ivory wedge with great results."Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Lads, would it be possible to case harden a straight razor, then polish out the face? Case hardened tang, tail, and spine...
