It's really just a loaf of bread Tom. [emoji5] should be good and stale by the time it gets there.
Border cops will think its a bomb.
It's taped for war. Should hold off a nuclear blast though.... Can't say for the box. [emoji25]Mike

Well Im getting on here a bit late tonight..
Long day.
So here is the first edition of the Butchered Blade Giveaway!!!
All you lurkers who have been enjoying these great posts, but for whatever reason dont have anything to work on.. could be all the antique stores are dry (common nowadays), could be your wife gave the its me or ebay ultimatum... whatever the reason, I want to help you get a piece of the action!!!
I will have blades every month (i hope) that I will post on here, and Ill send you some work materials, perhaps some wood (or celluloid if you insist), and any odds and ends that I can help with. Im sure others will help too! So please ask.
All I ask is that you post "progressive pics" and let us know how its going.. and of course pics of the final product! You keep the razor, shave with it, sell it if you must, or even better give it away to someone less fortunate than you.
A razor in hand is a fortune to those who know better!
Here they are. Ill try to improve my pics, but this is what Ive got for now. PM me if you are interested.. and no rush, but dont make us wait months to enjoy your posts.
Cheers gents!
EDIT: all of these razors have something that needs fixing.. whether new scales or rust (backside of shumate), or chips.
Some are gonna be harder than others.
EDIT: The blade with the broken tip has been claimed.
As well as the French blade with chips.
And the Wosty with curved hollowed tang.
Will send out Monday! Good luck!Last edited by MikeT; 10-10-2015 at 11:44 PM.

Oh man I like that one.. The stamp on the spine and the wide tang, along with the style of scales.. that style that is when they began curving them a bit but still very old.. Ive been trying to draw some out for blades here and there but always end up curving the scales too much..
Jax Patina black, never knew about that, now Im gonna have to try.. some blades just really need a patina, others are great shiny and new. I agree with engine, some blades I just cant feel good about removing the patina.. but all that rust, now I can remove rust AND still have that patina! Nice
Frederick Reynolds is among my favorite manufacturers. Those scales look great! I have yet to really get into horn scales. Ill do it but have so many other..“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

Thanked: 4206Amber is like glass, fossilized tree sap I believe. Hopefully and usually less brittle than glass. Sometimes has inclusions like bugs, seeds, or alien spores.
Going to work it on the wet diamond power saw to close size before I bond it to a stick for final profile and drilling. In theory, should work, pinning may be a problem, but one challenge at a time.
Using the paint stick template as I usually do for these scale builds. And will be posting up progress shots accordingly.
And for those not already rebuilding or trying their hand at it, Mike's offer is not to be passed up.
Zero risk, all gain, bragging rights on a new skill, and a better shave community to boot. What's not to like?
Good on ya for making the offer MikeyT!

Having an amber wedge is kindof like Cinderella and her glass slippers... Gotta be extra careful. If anyone can do it it's Mike! It is fragile.
Alien spores lol you know there's truth to that some say.. on meteorites generic material is said to have been found. And this algae like stuff growing on outside of space station.. this earth has probably been collecting and culturing alien spores for its entire existence.. but who knows? Hehehe

Mike, consider using Babur's collars and instead of grinding them flush underneath, have them meet in the middle with a tiny bit allowed for crush. Oversize the hole in the amber a bit and CA it to the scales. I have done this with success before.
Might keep it from cracking?"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Was thinking Tom.
Would a rivet bushing work as a way to keep it from cracking as well.
Figure you'd be the man to ask, if it had ever been done.
Thinking it would keep from crushing the wedge, and the pin from expanding and cracking it.
Like you said, over sizing the hole.Mike

Thanked: 4206Oversize hole definitely makes sense. I still have two collars from when you sent me those cat eye washers I believe Tom.
Was thinking I'd see how thin I can take it on the trailing edge and decide what to do from there.
Thanksgiving weekend up here this weekend so lots of non razor activites on the plate. Will be on later to see the updates though..
Cheers boys.
Edit:Made my sis a lil thank you for hosting tonight's dinner
