Nevet heard that before.
But it's a prime candidate for obtaining a clean edge and leaving some pits.JMOMike

On a recently acquired razor, I began some clean up...part way through I decided to hone it and see how it honed and shaved. It shaved beautifully. I kind of forgot the cleanup because now I had a razor. Sure, if you look at the darker specks under a loupe they look like the Grand Canyon. At some point I think it is more Devil's Slobber rather than spit.

Thanked: 4206If it shaves well, good job sir!
After that, it' s personal preference. Personally, I find that liquid rust treatment, evaporust, to be good at cleaning out the discoloration and spit left behind without having to remove all the surrounding metal. Leaves a matte gray finish behind that comes off with 1k paper or higher.
Don't like to leave any rust myself, due to it's insidious nature..
How bout a pic??

I'll admit that a photo can be misleading. This is kind of like those before and after pics in magazines for a wonder cream. It is about the lighting
I thought about using Vaporust but I have never used it and didn't want to risk some patina. Happily, the edge took very little work to expose clean steel."Call me Ishmael"
