So.........I reckon I will have to do another save.........Is anyone restoring a clunker?
Prodigy, what's up on the Henckels?

I demand to see more progress pics out of you guys. Pages of yakking are fine, but we are supposed to be working here.
Don't be showing a completed set of scales or a finished blade. I (WE) want to see how it is done.
Reckon I will have to go to the pile.....sigh. And ALL the honing I have yet to do!

Ya, I lovingly put 2 rounds of renwax on it. I have decided to put some felt feet under it, take it home, and set it on my end table where I sit to watch TV.
Anything in the rotation needs a snug, it'll be right there. This thing needs to be seen!

Get it on, but we need to learn! Progress pics, techniques. Let's SEE, hear, and discuss about the steps, the trials and tribulations.

Especially the victories! This is a WORKSHOP thread! Get to work!

Well I've got no work happening tonight, need to sell some things on the Bay before i can get more work supplies. So that's what I'm up to. And too much family stuff going on.
BUT I will share a mistake...
It's nice to try new things, but tried and true has value.
With my W&B celebrated with bog oak scales, I wanted to try out 100% tung oil. Should have tested it. It darkened and subdued the colors, I didn't want that. And it did not make a strong finish (the scales scratch and dent with the least amount pressure).
CA would have been better (or equivalent), it highlights colors and wood details. And is a strong enough barrier.
Two part epoxy finish is stronger though.
The tung oil I used takes forever to dry as well.
Anyway just thought I'd share the mistake.

Well, since I have the thing in my hand, the scales are awesome. You can feel the wood. Special stuff. Leveling it out with CA would be a sin. JMHO. Wish you had taken pictures of the scale build and esp the blade finish. Gawd it's nice! No mistakes here ("cept the double-pins.....)
I may just send it back!

Okay that's a valid point. CA has a plastic feel. Some woods are better to get that natural feel. Pure tung oil takes several coats and each coat takes days to weeks to dry depending on conditions. I'll continue to seek other options to get the same affect.
Yeah I'm not the greatest with pins.. hehehe

EDIT: yep I need to get better at progressive pictures... I'm no Ansel Adams..

You did great with the pins, the top was a bit short, I think. Still tapped it tighter. I will buff the rest up a bit.
I totally love the fit and finish. Really like that you used old collars. How was the blade finished?
    THAT is nice!
