Thanked: 237Thanks! I've been learning a little bit each time, and this is set number 2 for using wood. I've made horn and g10 a handful of times as well. This buckeye burl is super nice when it's finished. Hopefully the next set will be "perfect". These turned out really good but there's a couple things I now know to do differently. Surprisingly it all went together and centered up with out any tweaking necessary. I'm putting a friodur 14 in gaboon ebony right now too, and the darn thing is so off center I'm not sure I'll even be able to make it work.

I had a W&B that was catching the side of the scales. The best I could do was to take out one of the internal washers and really tighten one side of the pin.
Now it just misses the edge of the scale. I suppose you could use 2 washers on one side if the blade is that warped...Or a drastic measure might be to drill un even pin holes in the scales to give the blade an angle?

Thanked: 237Yea I always hate making them work, and usually end up making them ok. This one is real bad, it's almost the mid point of the blade that hits the scales. The tang is drastically off center, and the last razor I tried to bend back snapped, so I might send it off to someone. It's a razor I plan on keeping, the friodur 14's are less common and over priced in my opinion. I even saved the little henckels emblem to try and put on the new set.
I edited my pictures three times now and do not know why they are sideways, oh well you get the picture.
I matched the original scales as closely as possible, they were badly warped, but now I see they were probably warped intentionally because this blade is so crooked...Last edited by prodigy; 10-04-2015 at 10:44 PM.

Pic from the road. It's about the only straight razor related thing from this weekend.

There was a time when I may have gotten out and snagged that sign.
It looks nicer where it's at than anywhere I could have put it, though!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 4827@prodigy,
because you have not pinned the wedge end you can torque your scales a little at the wedge end, and then re drill or reposition your wedge pin and get that blade to sit straight. You could also unpin the pivot and adjust how it sits in the scales with a little sanding. The moving the wedge end I do on occasion if I know I am dealing with a crooked razor. I also typically pin the wedge first unless I know something is off kilter. Henckels 14 happens to be near the top of my favorite razor list.
I just looked back at your pictures and you are in full mock up without any pins. I should wear my glasses I suppose. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!
