I too have broken a blade when trying this - I believe it was a cast blade.

On a recent renovation I faced the problem of the blade pulling to one side quite severely - so I tried Tom's approach of using CA glue on a thin washer on the inside scale opposite to the problem. By filing a wedge I was able to see the improvement - but it needed a bit more so I put another washer on top and did the same again with an almost perfect outcome. As Tom continually points out - a little at the pivot can be a lot at the wedge.

Incidentally, I found using CA accelerator very useful. I used a small piece of rod to position the washer in place - then a squirt of accelerator and quickly removed the rod before it had a chance to set - and the washer was firm enough to file right away.
My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.

I'll take her for a spin in just awhile or in the morning.
Oh man that looks great Steve! Where did you get the scale material? You have them shaved nice and thin!
I've never seen a Henckels Gloria... a rare one right?
The blade finish and shape are sweet, and the scales are as thin as a lot of ivory scales..

I also often use that method, sometimes I use JB Weld and a washer.
...Have not sanded into the inside the scales at the pivot to fix the problem though.
Also, that accelerator is like magic! A quick spray and voila.. hard CA.
Never tried to hammer a bent blade, was always freaked out it would snap..

So it looks like I missed out on the chipped Henckels.

Nevermind, I'm sure something will come up sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, I'll keep enjoying the banter and watching the fabulous restores on this thread!

When holding it against a flat object it's visible with the naked eye. I'll try and take another picture tomorrow with an actual camera so it doesn't auto rotate.
Are you certain the tang is bent, or is the tang ground differently on one side than the other? Keep in mind these blanks were not made in-house by Henckels. Makes no diff, I suppose. Still have to make it fit!

Just got done spending some quality time with Gloria. Just finished honing. Stropping is next but I'll do that in just a bit.

That turned up a treat, Steve! I missed it, I am sure, but did you make those scales?

Great work on those scales Steve. Never tried a three pin set up, although I have a beau brummel that originally came in a set. Looks great in that bleached bone.
Sick at home today and sitting with a lap full of mothers and a nest of razors to clean up.
Gray day and worth staying indoors.
    Cheers.

I too have never done a three pin set of scales, but I would like to. The skill testing question is what is the best choice for material for the spacer. I have not seen any tubing that seemed like a logical choice, but I don't get out much. So spill the beans Steve, I want to know how you did those beauties up.

Come to think of it, I have not seen 3 pin scales in bone before? Pretty slick!
