Hey Steve, I noticed your new avatar last night...nice!
Sadly it reminded me of a recent event in my little ville. We have a statue here of a Confederate soldier which was dedicated in 1913. I live in a state where citizens fought for either the Confederate or Union armies, Maryland. Not long ago it became immersed in 'controversy.' Suddenly, the statue became a symbol of 'hate'. Next, graffiti, then it was boxed and the hand wringers were talking about moving the statue (taxpayer cost $200,000). So it now sits in a wooden box and some members of the local historical society crept down under the cover of darkness and placed American flags around the box on Veterans Day. By an Act of Congress in 1958 Confederate soldiers were formally recognized as Veterans.
This whole thing burns me so much that I went OT on one of my favorite threads. Carry on lads.

JMO but I would strongly suggest a respirator. I know you said you have experience with woodworking, its just that when it comes to dust (bone, wood, tusk) its best to take more precautions than a simple dust mask provides.
Just my heart felt opinion, I bug my friends about it all the time! Lol
In it for the long run!!!
You have found a great thread! Welcome! Join in and have fun..
Hmm interesting. Every time I hear someone talk about the smell of working with bone or horn two things come to mind. The first is am I the only one with really effective dust control and the second is are you guys being really aggressive with the saws and sanders. I have not noticed much for smell to tell the truth. Maybe the HEPA filter on the shop vac or the built in dust collector or the light touch eliminates that. I have done extensive work with cedars and yew, so my dust control is pretty bang on, and no smell to speak of.
The cow bone from the pet store is a big undertaking, unless you have a nice resaw bandsaw, and then it's not a big deal.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Try a hobby store that does models, electric cars, radio control, miniature railroad etc. They may also have brass shim stock for making thrust washers.

I think searching for my next thing, be it soft or hardware, tools or repair supplies, has been the second best part of joining the wet shaving community. I am limited by my budget so need of groceries has kept me humble. I reined in my spending on hobby purchases when I accepted that I have plenty soaps and aftershaves.
But if I purchase one hundred washers, that means I can repin 25 razors...

I used to fuss at the ExSWMBO for her collection of waffle makers & George Foreman grills. If she had used them to cook I'd have been more sympathetic. On the other hand, my razors are going to be used again. I win!
To deobfuscate is to convert something that is difficult to un͝d̡͝e҉͞r̴͝st̨̕a͘͢n̢̛d̕̕ ̧͝
into one that is simple, understandable and straightforward.

It is sad that things have gotten that way. I am by no means a racist & I did have a couple of others up like a rebel flag in the shape of the state of Texas but I figured the one with the American flag was best. I also had another one that said "Heritage, Not Hate" but the words were so small that I did not use it. If it offends anyone, I will gladly change it. I don't want to start any trouble.

Well simply put, I think we make a serious mistake if we try to rewrite history. I hope there isn't anyone here so small that they object to your avatar. I think it is pretty cool. Ok, I'll let you guys get to work now.

Perhaps I should change it to avoid any further issues.

Not needed, it is history, especially the way you show it with both flags.
