Here is a very old straight razor made by Genco Cutlery which comes in the original (and very used) box. The razor came from the estate of a friend of mine; his grandfather used this and his name (Glenn A. Case) is on the handle. The only other marking is on the metal razor itself, where it says "Paxon's Blue Steel".
In the end it will be okay.
If it's not okay, it's not the end.

... I'm a bit confused here. I understand that this razor may not be in superb condition, but considering that it is an heirloom piece, that is forgivable IMO. It has a story attached, and shows it.

So what exactly is "such a shame" about this razor? Btw, I'm not busting your chops, I indulge my curiosity more often than not. That's all .

Advertised as a Genco. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't believe Paxon & Genco are the same. And surely it wouldn't have originally came in a box marked Genco De Roma. Not busting your chops here either, but IMO the story should be at least believable if it's not true.
In the end it will be okay.

Well, first there is no such thing as Genco cutlery, Genco is a trademark of the Geneva Cutlery co and later purchased by Case. Paxon's Blue Steel is a generic German trademark sometimes found on Wester Bros razors. As for the story well...

"This is a nice vintage straight razor. It measures 6" long and it is in overall good pre-owned condition with some minor surface rust as shown in the photos."
It does appear to have an edge near the heel....maybe.

I went to a local weekly consignment auction last week after spotting two SRs in their listing. One was a Union Cutlery Spike in fair condition, needed the previous repin at the pivot fixed a bit. The other was like the one above. Only mark was "Pakistan", the scales were separating at the other end just to give the blade clearance to close. Had mild rust as well.

Anyway. The SRs hit the auction ring together, but the bid was per item. I was only interested in one, and for "impulse buy" money. I was outbid after $11 or $12. The winning bidder took both, for $12 each! I wasn't interested in the RSO. He could have got it for their minimum bid lol.

Afterwards, I asked if he collected or used. He just collects. Which explains why, when I brought up that I know to stay away from anything made in Pakistan or China, he said: "These [Pakistani] are meant more for hair." Probably meant hair-shapers. And no, it isn't lol. It is meant to trick people into thinking they are getting a deal on a razor that can shave, even though it can't.

At least I knew better than to open my mouth about how he's "full of ".

Here's a phenomenon that's new to me - an astronomically overpriced razor box. The seller's so proud of it, he has it listed twice - here and here - one listing starts at $56 and the other at $100. That's right, those prices for just a box, no razor.

More power to him if he can sucker someone into paying that, but .... Seriously?!
