If I may be a bit frank for a second.
Hockey, baseball and American football were messed up to something other than sports years and years ago.
They are pretty much as rigged as that abomination you call wrestling.
Happily though, they have come up with innings, time-outs and quarters so that the sponsors can get the most out of the commercials..
Now football is not yet all that popular in the US.
And I for one hope it stays that way.
That way the sport can remain a sport where there is 2*45 minutes of sports.
No time-outs, no players standing idle while waiting for Coca Cola et all to finish their important messages.
If the Americans ever gets influence in that sport, it will be 4 by 12 minutes of parading that will take 3-4 hours to complete.
So, here's hoping the US team places fourth in their group...
(I know, I know, the worst they can get after yesterday's game is third..)Last edited by Birnando; 06-23-2014 at 07:37 AM.

Basically the group stage is the series leading up to the REAL playoffs.
The quarter-finale (8 teams), half-finale (4 teams) and finale (the final two).
This makes sure that the one day flies aren't the ones competing against each other. They've already proven themselves in the groups.
Each match in the group is good for 3, (a win) 1 (a tie) or 0 (a lose) points for each team.
At the end of the 3 matches that each team plays in the group the 2 teams with the most points in the group go on to the quarter finals.
If two teams have an equal amount of points then the amount of goals scored during the matches also comes into play to decide the group winners.

Yea, I had posted that prior to the match. The last play most certainly looked bad for Müller but I can't seem to find anything regarding an update as of this post. The Ghana player made it look like Müller dislocated his shoulder.
I'll have to keep an eye out for the S. American style of futbol you mentioned. Thanks for the heads up.

You know, I never thought about it that way. Its kind of a romantic way of looking at it really when you think about it... dividing the worlds culture away from North American culture lol!
I am sure there is some truth to it... I bet Canadians hate being lumpped into that though lol!!David

Injuries are the unfortunate side of playing in world class football. There's been a few and I don't like seeing teams be beaten as a result.
It's a fact of life in the game, though. It has one major upside: It draws the substance and quality of a team to the top.
