Thread: We Have Skills Too !!

Thanks my friend, I tried to mimic the original scales as best I could. They were about .140 in the middle and were rounded toward the blade. I ended up with between .135 -.141 so I was in the ballpark. I also re-used the original lead/pewter wedge but for some reason the razor hit the wedge so I worked it back toward the hole but ended up having to elongate the hole in the scales to get clearance.
All in all I'm very pleased and I learned a lot. If we didn't keep learning, what a boring life we would have!
I'm very confident about honing it as it had a very small and even bevel from who knows how long ago.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 4207Rescue, not a rebuild indeed. Nicely put Richard, and nicely recovered Roy.
Looks classic, owns its age and still ready to perform. Really no higher honor for the old blade.
Well done Roy.. Now move it the proper thread. Hirlau runs a tight ship!!!"Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanks Martin,
I actually 'think' that I 'Rescued' it from some IDIOT with a Dremel wanting to put a near mirror finish on the blade/a finish it NEVER HAD!
The glue the seller was talking about was holding the cracked scales at the toe together/however now that you mention it, that's probably how the 'glue' that I found at the tip of the razor got there and on both sides. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

I honed this Big Boy up this morning and got a very nice smooth CCC shave.
Honing was Naniwa Chosera 1k-Norton 4K, Norton 8K and finished on a Coticule (all hones were with slurry followed by clear water) then followed by 50 laps on Neil Miller Linen, 50 laps on SRD Roo and 100 laps on SRD #1 Leather. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
