I've heard that in parts of Japan, housing costs are so high that they have instituted long-term (50-60 year) mortgages where you obligate the next generation to continue making the payments!
And here in the States, I've just lately seen advertisements for 'Reverse Mortgages'....I'm not sure how they work, but they seem to market them to the elderly, and I assume it's something like you sell your house, continue to live in it, and the buyer-investor makes monthly payments and gets the house when you're gone. It's a way for the elderly to recoup their investment and get a monthly income without actually having to move. Seems like that would piss the kids off, though!

Thanked: 1587We've got reverse mortgages here too. My mother took advantage of one to put in a pool. It seems to work OK but I don't understand the details all that well.

Thanked: 150Reading this tread was like watching a woman go through her menstral cycle. Everything was great, hunky dorry, no worries. Then BAM!!!!!!!!! All hell breaks loose, and the fur is flying, blood is flowing, and the claws are out!!! Then BAM!!!! back to normal. No worries.
