Thanked: 10gregs: Maybe he thinks it right and worth defending because it's his country and he cares about the ideals it was founded on. You know, it's that seemingly evil thing called pride. Don't you blokes have that too?
icedog: You said "the decision to snuff out a human life is nothing to joke about", isn't that a form of judgement? You're implying that you would judge me if I were to joke about it. Yet, your second post states, "If you had been paying attention you would have read that I made no attempt at passing judgement on the moral aspect of killing". So which is it?
I don't think joki was trying to define the American way of life either, he simply said that in his belief there's only one political party in this country that supports our forefathers model, i.e. the 2nd amendment. Aren't we allowed our own opinion, no matter how much someone may disagree with it?Last edited by SlickWillyTFCF; 07-21-2009 at 01:06 PM.

Actually it is funny because it's so misinformed. First, I don't think any bill was passed. Please cite whatever bill you think Obama signed. Second, everything I found said that it was a change in policy that was initiated by the Office of the Secretary of Defense under the Bush administration:
snopes.com: DoD Suspension of Brass Cartridge Casing Sales
FactCheck.org: Did the Obama administration shut down a Georgia ammunition supplier? Is it trying to create an ammo shortage?
The joke was meh. Don't think the description of the person was at all relevant -- much more concise to say "a person raises a knife at you." :P

Thanked: 586You said, "There's truth to both parties but only one supports the American way of life." That means you are concerned for what you believe is "the American way of life". If you don't have a definition in mind, you must be a lunatic.
Were you "specifically talking to me?" I guess not. It now appears you were only talking to someone who agrees with you.
"Use a whole quote or don't make quotes." Jokijo has spoken!
"And chill out. I'm not threatening your way of life at all, don't treat everything as a personal attack. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions without someone making them cut it into pieces and put under a microscope. We live in America, remember?" What brought this on? Listen chief, you do live in America. I spent four years of my life defending your right to blurt out dopey crap. I also defended my right to call you on it as I see fit. Don't tell me to "chill out". I am already as cool as a cucumber. I am the coolest. Just ask Basil:

Thanked: 10American way of life.....life, liberty, pursuit of happiness? Our entire constitution and bill of rights.
Can it last forever? I hope so (I'm willing to fight to the death to help it along) but time will tell.
I don't think the current economic state is a reflection only on the US, and certainly not what we were founded on. We've strayed so far from our initial thoughts of how America should run, and strayed a bit as a society, that there's no way the original plan caused such a financial collapse.

Thanked: 234How does the states try and achieve that?
Maybe not on only the US, but largely, you are being blamed for it. Certainly a reflection of the 'take now, pay later and screw the consequences' attitude that is not only seen with money - not only in the states either, here as well.
A friend of mine went bankrupt in november, his new bank told him not to mention it, because they don't check. I wonder what his personal debt will look like in 12 months.

ok ok you girls let go of each others hair
as much as I may like girl fights, fact is none of you are that pretty !
it is the duty of all Americans
each of us looks at the same thing and sees something different
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
I was really just making a joke to try and divert the topic before we ended up with another Basil pic.
He needs a little handlebar mustache Brad.Last edited by gratewhitehuntr; 07-21-2009 at 02:02 PM.

Thanked: 10I am a republican, but I've learned to leave politics out of conversation as much as possible. All it seems to do is get tempers flared. I know what I believe, who I voted for, and what I think we're doing wrong as a country. I wish I had more of a say in things, but politicians get paid WAY too much play a game I wasn't invited to. They do one of two things: find the best way to get what they want and make the smallest amount of people mad, or they do what the majority of people want. It sucks that some group of americans will inevitably get screwed, but it's all about finding a happy medium where most of the people are satisfied. Most people wanted us to fight back after September 11, now most people think socialized healthcare is the right thing to do. Plenty of people disagree with both, but they did or will happen.
