Pretty easy to answer. Of course i shoot. And in the panic i kill the bad guy when i mean just to stop and not kill him. Makes me a murderer (morally doomed for life) although by law i have all the right to kill. Or in the worst case i kill my loved one.
Of course this is a zero scenario. Such thing do not happen here. Even those rare burglars have no intent to kill.
Having a loaded gun in an unlocked drawer makes you lose your license. Too many cases where kids or burglars had taken them with sad consequences.Last edited by Sailor; 07-25-2012 at 08:39 PM.

Thanked: 6The 6th commandment was possibly the 6th "law" created in a time when there was no order. all laws and order are broken by many people who do not care about other people's well being or laws. Sadly we live in a world where people will kill and hurt each other. When someone comes to kill or hurt me, my wife, or my two daughters, I don't want to show up to a gun fight with a knife. I will give plenty or warning before i shoot to kill. Like "I have a gun and i will shoot" I think that is more warning than any criminal will give me.

Thanked: 1587Asking people what they would do in unrealistic and contrived situations is hardly conclusive of anything. However, I would, based on your scenario Glen, overcome my training injury with the power of my mind, jump up, roundhouse the first one in the head and disable them with one kick, get the second one in a wrist lock, disarm them both, call the police, then go out for ice cream with my loved one.
However, more realistically, being a liberal I would talk them out of it, and we'd end up singing kumbaya together over marshmellows and coffee.
I'm good at these scenario things - I used to play them with my brothers when I was a kid.
Here's one for the conservatives: A communist is starving and half dead on your doorstep. There is no one but you around. You have nothing in your cupboard but one can of baked beans which you had been saving for when Obama brings down Armageddon with his ineptitude. In addition, she is a former soviet supermodel and believes in Obamacare and gun control. Do you feed her, or do you let her starve?

Your scenario is what makes the USA slightly different than other western industrialized countries at the moment. That is neither good nor bad, it just is. That scenario probably does happen in Canada but chances are there would be no handgun present and available to the home owner. If you legally owned a handgun here you could not legally store it in such a fashion never mind it being loaded to boot. You cannot legally discharge a firearm in any place other than where it is legal to do so and your house ain't one of them. There are probably several more legal reason why you can't which I have forgotten. I imagine it is similar in most other western industrialized countries.
However, legalize aside and being a liberal, if placed in that situation I would likely shoot to kill. Attempting a wounding shot/shots is likely to create a miss so center of mass it is. I place a high value on human life, mine and my family's but not so much a criminals. I guess I am not a good Christian but I think I could live with the consequences.
All that said, I hope I never have to be in such a situation and there are some you can't negotiate your way out of by non violent means.
