Ah, the good old 'no true scotsman' fallacy.
You call yourself Pro America, but I think that your great grandparents would have a different idea about that. The very idea of a society that supports black people being able to vote (nevermind holding the highest office) would be ludicrous in their world view, and run very much against everything they would consider 'American'.Last edited by Bruno; 11-05-2012 at 06:30 PM.

Thanked: 247Here we go
I think society in general is mean spirited. Watching comedy and sitcoms, jokes are always at someone's expense. Many standup comedians basically seem to rant in a funny way.
I have over heard many recent discussions about proposed taxes...and it seems that these people were viewing taxes as a way to punish people they don't like!!! (Helmet laws, public smoking ban, and alcohol tax).
It's kind of sad when a component of the populous views taxes as punitive retribution instead of a means of funding...

Thanked: 734I feel that one of the major parties definitely WOULD take notice and exploit the vacancy. I doubt we'd see the desired effect or benefit from any third party candidates. Instead, I think the best thing that can happen is that people pay attention to their gov't, know a little of their history, and develop a philosophy about their gov't and how they want it to work. I had a short discussion on the elevator this morning with someone who brought the election up. It was agreed that the 20% in the middle would decide the election and we were both unhappy about that. Many believe that the hard left and the hard right are the problem. A legitimate point of view I suppose but I will disagree with that. There is a cultural and political war that is going on in this country. The battlefield has been everywhere and nowhere. But there have been signs that its bubbling to the surface. I think the aftermath of this election, you'll see it bubble up a little more. The best thing that anyone can do is stay informed and engaged. As for who will win? Impossible to say. But there is going to be a lot of excuses made on Wednesday for how the polls are capturing this election. There is simply nothing that can be determined by looking at them but for the fact that it may be close.

Thanked: 1936You are so right my friend, I really voted for what I consider the lesser of two evils. I didn't want the current President back for my own reasons...so the other candidate got my mark. Is he any better, don't know but I hope I can find out. I don't feel that most politicians are out for the people anyways, just for their own personal gain. Sad, but true. A elected official shouldn't make any more than a soldier nor have any better benefits...I could go on and on.
Either way, I voted, so that gives me a right to gripe either way it goes...get out and vote folks.Last edited by ScottGoodman; 11-05-2012 at 07:40 PM.

Thanked: 334OCDshaver reminded me of a lecture an American Revolution History prof presented many years ago. In short, the American War of Rebellion (Independence) was really two wars:
1. The war for home rule
2. The war for who would rule at home
The latter is ongoing, and will only end when the USA ceases to exist as a coherent political entity.

In order for me to maintain the feeble grip I have on my sanity, I need to stay away from this thread for a while, it tends to hurt my brain. But, I will leave you'all with my favorite political quotes of all time, thanks and credit to the infamous Edwin Edwards, "The only way I can lose this election is if I'm caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy". Later gang, remember, vote early and vote often!!
