Thread: The New Republic of Texas?

That is just a bit silly.
Let's ignore the fact that secession would be a terminally bad idea from an economic point of view.
Let's even ignore the fact that a civil war would kill off the Texan economy in a heartbeat regardless of whether it even was a bad idea to start with or not.
Texas is landlocked for most part. This means no supplies beyond what you can make yourself.
No import of raw materials. No traffic of goods and persons. Nowhere to go, Noone to help you.
Meanwhile, the evil federalist government has a large economy to shoulder the economic burden of war. They control all supply lines, and can attack from any side, not to mention that they outnumber Texan combattants n to 1, and have all the big guns.
There is of course a piece of sea there, but as the federal government controls the big ships, that would be an effectoive blockade, as well as giving them a good place to launch air raids.
Winning secession by civil war is a pipe dream. It can't happen, and even if you could, it would definitely not make things 'Great'. And as much as you love your guns, they would be worse than useless against todays army. I say worse, because they'd only draw attention, at which point the military could just pick you off at their leisure.
The Texan economy and society would be destroyed by civil war. I fail to see how that would be 'great'.Last edited by Bruno; 11-13-2012 at 02:49 PM.

Bruno, I feel you may have missed something in all of your presumptions of Americans. Especially those south of Woodbridge Va, and that is this- The age old spirit of Dixie and her threat to any American Union is the teeth in our civil peace. And therefore is most healthy.
btw- Texas is not landlocked

?
If someone honestly believes that winning a new civil war is possible, and that it would be great: how is that considered healthy?
Btw, yes I was too hasty in my original post which I've since edited. However, as the navy is under federal command, the seaside would not do Texas much good.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Does anyone else see the irony of Republicans... the same Republicans who bemoan that America isn't asserting herself as a world power should - want to split the nation into a bunch of irrelevant players on the world stage lol?
On a more exciting note - America is slated to be the worlds largest oil supplier by 2020 and completely self sufficient in terms of it's energy needs by 2035!! Woot!!

Thanked: 10The New Republic of Texas?
Last time I checked spirit didn't win wars... There are some cases in military history where morale has tipped the scales in favor of a smaller force, yes, but remember the scale were talking about here: Texas with a population of 25.7mm vs 311.6mm.

^^ Silly rabbit lol ^^^
That would be Texas 25.7 vs. "what's left of America" (311.6-25.7).David

Thanked: 1936First off, I will state that the whole idea is ridiculous & will never happen...it's just a pipedream.
A good read would be here: Economy of Texas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As you can see, with trade (the key), Texas could make it financially. It makes enough power, petroleum, agricultural & has enough manufacturing to get along well. Could it defend itself without the federal military bases? Good question...it is a very large defense manufacturer.
This kind of talk comes up time and again & is simply a pipedream as I mentioned before. Last time I checked, unless there is a new modification of the modification of the modification (I could go on) of the Constitution/law, I'm still allowed to dream. Who knows, I'm sure there is some law in the Patriot Act that I've broken...Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and God Bless, Scott

I'm still busy reading the Texas v White Wikipedia between customers at work, but I'll give that a glance momentarily - and hopefully have a point to make :P

Instead of any of our finer states succeeding from the Union, I think we should squeeze the District of Colombia from our Union.
