Thanked: 1936First off, I will state that the whole idea is ridiculous & will never happen...it's just a pipedream.
A good read would be here: Economy of Texas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As you can see, with trade (the key), Texas could make it financially. It makes enough power, petroleum, agricultural & has enough manufacturing to get along well. Could it defend itself without the federal military bases? Good question...it is a very large defense manufacturer.
This kind of talk comes up time and again & is simply a pipedream as I mentioned before. Last time I checked, unless there is a new modification of the modification of the modification (I could go on) of the Constitution/law, I'm still allowed to dream. Who knows, I'm sure there is some law in the Patriot Act that I've broken...Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Instead of any of our finer states succeeding from the Union, I think we should squeeze the District of Colombia from our Union.

The Texas economy might be fine, but could they bear the burden of having to pay off their share of the debt before they leave? Moreover, what's to say "America" will want or even buy the things it offers at the prices they get for them now?
It gets tricky really soon and the fact of the matter is all States are better off simply because they are a part of the union as it were lol.

Oh man I can't help myself... Generally speaking, you buy a company at 4 times it's revenue. Under that premise according to Wikipedia lol:
Texas GDP - $1,208,ooo x1,000,000 = 1,208,000,000,000
Texas GDP times 4 = 4,832,000,000,000
National Debt per individual American = about 50K times 26M Texans = 1,300,000,000,000
Divide GDP x 4 by the debt Texas owes to America and... That's about 3.71... not bad! Assuming everyone in Texas stays in Texas after the split.David

And remember: no foreign trade, because there will be a blockade. Tech companies will quickly die off because they won't be able to sell their stuff. they also wouldn't get important electronics like CPUs and thing like that. All important wafer fabs are someplace else.

No Sweat;
1. Tech companys will sell to Mexico, as they are doing now.

2. Blockade ?? Hell, we can't even stop the drugs floating into the Texas coast; we have been trying for 30+ years.

3. Wafers ?? Now that's just plain silly. I can get a large box of wafers from Wal-Mart for $2.78.
Wafers?? Really Bruno!

Thanked: 8If they do secede then they need to pay back the USA for the monies put into the roads, refunds of Federal grants for schools and universities. No more Pell Grants, student loans etc. Withdraw all military bases along with the military protection as well as collateral jobs. I think it would cost Texas a lot of money to secede.
