Good article. I hadn't thought of China's interest of keep NK in place as a buffer between themselves and the "West" of SK. It was also nice to see that sanctions are being tailored to cover high end items. Sanctions have been toothless in the respect that they had little effect on those who are in power. And it's those who have a total disregard for their own people. Whether it's effective or not?

I think we all know China is our enemy in all but name. They have stolen much of our own technology (including walking much of our missile technology out of Los Alamos in the 90's), and sandbag us at every step (including using NK as a buffer regime). I think I detest China even more than I do NK (at least they don't pretend they are anything but an archaic Stalinist dictatorship).
I guess my earlier point could be summed up by saying that I don't believe your Kim Jong Uns, your Achmadinejads (or whatever the little Members Only wearing twerp's name is-I don't feel like googling it), or some of these leaders always represent the will of their people, which is probably a naive irrelevancy when discussing this world nuclear chess game.

Just saying
Personally I thought we should have taken out every missile they put on a launch pad since they said they were going to launch them...Last edited by gssixgun; 04-12-2013 at 10:26 PM.

Thanked: 3228Yea, they have changed and it is precisely because of the existence and proliferation of nuclear weapons. The stakes are just too high anymore got a Quick Draw McGraw response in kind. We are still pretty quick to jump in with both feet in a "limited war" scenario though. Far too many brush wars to even begin to mention some lasting for a decade and longer. If NK did not have nukes it might have been a totally different game.

I am not up to date on Iran, but the NK bomb is something that anyone with a masters degree in physics could have built, including me. It's a uranium gun type bomb, of the sam type as little boy. Only, the US didn't even test the uranium bomb before actually dropping it. They were that confident it would work. NK otoh has had 3 chances now, and has still not bested little boy.
If the Chinese had helped, it would have worked already.
And while the Chinese are traditional allies, they are not eager for NK to have a nuclear arsenal or start a war. Because they would be the ones ending up with upwards of a million of refugees. It is saying a lot that no country has so far bothered to call their ambassadors back. Noone is expecting a war just yet. At least, no government with intelligence reports is.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Then it's a good thing you're not in a position to make that call, eh
Threats have to be believable in order to hold up in a court of law. You shooting a kid with a pop gun because he said he'd shoot you is not going to hold up as legit self defense. This is the same, except on a bigger scale. NK is an idle threat in terms of damage they can do.
In the world of international politics, propaganda of this type is going back and forth continually.
The US has dished out its share of rethorical nonsense as well.
You are old enough that you should remember Chrutchevs 'we will bury you'.
You didn't go to war over that either, and a good thing too.
Contrary to what many people seem to think, war doesn't make the world a better place.Last edited by Bruno; 04-13-2013 at 09:28 PM.
