I'll have to take second place even though I've had several strawberries ever since I got back from San Diego on the 27th of April but I'd left my spare battery in the charger plugged into the wall at my buddies home.

    No Pictures/No Proof!

By the way my friend, any chance of showing how those sweet onion sets I sent you are doing?

Nothing wrong with a little show and tell!

We just started to plant our garden....So far I have jalapeńo peppers, tomatoes, and celery plants planted, golden onions, Swiss chard, beets, yellow beans, assorted lettuces, and carrots seeded. I do have over 100 garlic plants at about 6 inches tall thus far too. More to be planted soon.
Is it over there or over yonder?

We had a mild sunny spring so everything is way ahead of where it was last year.

Not doing a garden this year and I am starting to get the shakes, but as I use "heirloom" seeds I have lettuce popping up, potatoes that I threw away and the squirrels replanted, and I just potted some volunteer tomato plants that popped up in the compost pile. I hope the tomatoes are cherokee purples, best tomato ever!

My brother went to college to learn about agricultural and everything related to it and he spent his life working with farmers especially wheat farmers but he told me that with 'Hybrid' plants and about their 'seeds' that they would either do one of these:

!. They will be 'Sterile' and not produce a plant.
    2. They would produce a plant but the plant would not bear a 'fruit' or 'vegetable'.
    3. They would produce a plant but the plant would be of one of the 'parent' plants.

I found this true in a couple of instances.

I had planted some Green Leaf Lettuce from a packet sold at my store. We used the lettuce until the heat forced the plant to 'Bolt' and went to seed.

Well I just left it for a few weeks then took an old lawn mower and mowed it down so it would be easy to cultivate in.

A couple of weeks later I say some 'GREEN' in the area. Sure as hell it was green lettuce growing. I just left it alone.

When spring came I was surprised to see that it was flourishing! What I got was Much Darker Green and stronger in taste but it was very good.

My Point Is: It doesn't take an 'Heirloom' to produce a plant from seed. But that seed may not produce the same 'crop' and be what you saw last year.
