We put up a two foot chicken wire fence around our container garden. The rabbits have been feasting.

My 3 Brittanys cornered 2 woodchucks in an old stone wall that runs along our property last month. Both died of lead poisoning.

This is what my solution is for now..
I made the 4x8 sheet recessed below the bed rails, I am hoping that eliminates it's ability to pry the top up..
I can lift the top out of the way to drive to the dump, and the wife can simply open the tailgate to put trash bags in there.
All scrap lumber except the 4x8 sheet which was $10 on sale, needed another pulley and hook and one extra carabiner so I am in it about $25
I might have to add a fold away support leg inside on the middle crossbar, if by chance the bear is big enough to climb on top and crush it down from above.
We had one do that to our old utility trailer years back
We shall see KISS
Jmercer your garden looks awesome
We are finally getting some HOT temps and everything seems to be popping up

We got started a little late this year and then it began to rain, and rain. It's the first time in years that Kansas isn't in a drought situation! Which is great, but we really got out of the gate slow.
After executive council, with a 7 year old girl hosting, we have decided to switch gears this year lol. Besides some perennials, we'll only be pursuing tomatoes and flowers. Copious amounts of flowers!
Flexible is important I guess lol.David

Thanked: 98Looks like you guys got it go'in on. The Bear thing Glen, I like Alaskan style, an Bearea , an area for bears that is also a garbage pit and burn area, the Bears usually stay around the mini dump and stay out of your home garbage, also an easy place to put a stand if you want to make bear sausage or want a fur. 2 miles from any home is a good place to put one and easy cleanup with a tractor. My weed eater is a 57 Case Backhoe.
Sure hope I can make your meet.

Last man in the dirt??
My garden as of June.
Winter Onions came in. rhubarb is waiting on strawberries that have no blossoms.
The stuff that frost killed is replaced with new recruits from the nursery farm give away.
Tomato a gallon size for $2 and whole flat of veggies for $8.
65 days till a harvest. Seems like we can still make a run at it.
Oh and Dad. Still believes and teaches the pinch method to pick spinach. He says it will grow twice before it goes to seed if you pinch the leaves early on, pre the heat of July.
Garlic, potatoes and been planted and took root. Zuc and yellow squash just put in ground.Your only as good as your last hone job.

Thanked: 113Good for you ultrasound, everything is looking great. We just got hit with hail and everything got shredded... Kiddos were super upset as all the strawberries are gone. I'm glad that it's the strawberry season and you can get them in stores
