30+ years ago when I got my first house and was going to start a small garden an old man whose name was Art Shaffer told me to Never Plant Tomato Starts Until May 26th as that was the last recorded KILLING FROST here in the valley.
Glen I do hope that your starts weren't killed off! My fingers are crossed also! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Well since I couldn't use my camera to provide proof that I'd been having fresh strawberries since the last of April. Here's proof that they do exist.
Two of my grand kids were here with their mom for the day and supper.
I'm not getting many but what I do get are great tasting! Sweet and JuicyOur house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Well those little darlings live about 15 miles away and I don't see them all that often. I'm hoping that between the sets that I planted 'maturing' and producing more berries and some of the 'runners' taking root by next year I'll have enough berries for plenty of eating and also making some jam
OH! I had enough fully mature berries for them to have 5 berries each while they were here at the Boars Nest. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Had our first strawberries today. There are plenty of green ones on the plants but living 4 miles from that big refrigerator called Lake Michigan has severely slowed down the growing season.
If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Thanked: 113Due to weather here in CO I was finally able to plant last weekend, I prepped the soil a weekend prior. I planted a few tomatoes, cucumbers, zucs, squashes, radishes, basil, corn (for the first time), kale, spinach, and arugula. We will see if the garden gods are good to us this season. Will keep you all updated.
Cheers.
