Been meaning to try that G&H Rum flake but never found it in stock at pipes and cigars.com. Looking at those pictures posted by Mr. Had sent me to the right place so I took a gamble on 4 oz. Virginia Burley and Rum whats not to like right?

I used to patronize pipes and cigars dot com, but smoking pipes dot com is in SC, and I'm in FL. So I can get my fix in 2 days instead of 3 or 4 from NY. Both give stellar service IME.

Well that was my exact rationale for choosing Pipes and Cigars. I live in Jersey and they ship from Bethlehem PA which is less than 2 hours drive and I usually get my order on the second day. Real quick in my book.

TBH I've been smoking tobacco for 52 years. Every month I think about quitting completely and I let my tobacco run dangerously low. At the absolute last minute I order another couple of pounds and start the cycle over again. If I was more committed to continuing to smoke I'd probably have a tobacco cellar (figuratively speaking) but I keep thinking about hanging it up.

Much harder to give up pipes than cigarettes I think. Cigarette tobacco tastes like hot air, and there is nothing comely about a cigarette or the pack they come in. A pipe OTOH, is a beautiful object, and the tobacco is divine. I don't inhale a pipe, so as bad as it is, it is not as bad as the cigarettes. My father smoked a pipe (a lot) until a week before he died at 84. If I last as long as he did I have 17 years left to enjoy.

Cigarettes to me became just an act of necessity. I smoked copiously between the age of 14 to 45 I replaced them with other evils but at least I enjoyed them. Pipes are an act of love, trying not to sound too dramatic. Its analogous to eating gruel to stave off hunger verses a fine gourmet meal. A neophyte I may be, but smoking was meant to be like this. Mindless verses Mindful a little bit of art in our lives to enjoy and make you think. Vice be damned, folks mostly die of eating too much anyway. Enjoy what you will nature gives no guarantees. Right now this Dunhill Elizabethan mixture I'm having is for today a perfect smoke and on that note I bid you a good night.

Gotta disagree with ya there. I quite cigarettes twice(smoked tobacco since I was 13.Both times were very hard.Lost my mother to stroke and stepdad to lung cancer and still I chose to smoke a pipe.I can go a week easy without smoking my pipe and never get so much as a flinch of withdrawal symptoms. Pipes never dictate when I smoke,it's the other way around. it would only be hard for me to quite my pipe in the sense of losing a wonderful enjoyment but nothing physical. Unless I misunderstood your meaning. If I did and I may have,no bad meant Jimmy.

That was eloquent for a "Neophyte" as you say...... I concur . Probably why I will die with a plate of sausage in front of me along with a glass of Port and a nice Pipe. Gosh I hope they got Port up there...zheeesh that would be awful if not.

I guess the difference is that I was/am addicted to nicotine and adopted pipes as a nicotine delivery system primarily. I first smoked at maybe 12 or 13. Sure enough daily at 15. Left school and home at that tender age. I got hooked on Camel non filters because that was what I stole from my mom when I was not yet buying them. At $0.30 a pack I was soon buying my own.

Smoked them for 36 years before I finally gave them up. It was two packs a day at that point. I began smoking pipes in the 1980s. Started in an attempt to give up the cigarettes and ended up smoking both. I finally gave up the Camels in December of 2000. I could probably cut down on pipe smoking, but I pretty much smoke morning, noon and night. Never have inhaled a pipe though, and I walk and ride bicycles daily for fitness.

Ya done good Jimmy! Chasing away a demon with something a bit divine. The fact that you still exercise is testament to the benefit of change. Now contemplating Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky in my Savinelli 320 ks after a day of work. Enjoy the afternoon gentlemen.
