I was not aware that Haddos Delight had a topping, it does have quite the unique tin aroma that I never really understood.
So, I stand corrected and apparently have unknowingly smoked an aromatic in the last 35 years. If you can ever let some cellar for five years, it is absolutely wonderful. Pretty good after one year, too. But it does need a little time to meld and mellow.
Currently smoking more Bayou Morning in an Old Antiquari.

The term Aromatic certainly is a little confusing. So many tobaccos that are not considered aromatic are still enhanced with a little flavoring. In the case of Haddos it does have a figgy or plumb like tin note which I find enticing. With this tobacco I think they just chose something to add to compliment its character.I believe they use a plum brandy and I still find it delicious. I never smoked a real old tin but I can see it does improve alot even after 6 months.

Thanked: 1160Viking rustic quarter bent and MacBarens Black Ambrosia. Been really lovin this pipe as of late. It's a nice clamper with the rubber bit and it feels good in the hand,I like the full bowl on it and the narrow bit as it doesn't feel like a tree trunk in my mouth.Definitely one of my favorite all day carry arounds. I'm pretty sure this is an earlier model of Viking. It's very well made with a good draw and the Ferrules never have loosened. I think my only real gripe is the stain.I was never a huge fan of the plum color and wish this were dark black but when it showed up at my local shop ,I knew I would be passing up a rare find so I went for it. The price was right too of course. If memory serves me correct I think it was like $60 or $70 something.

How "i" Do Flake
Gawith & Hoggarth Rum Flake to be precise, but the principal is the same no matter what the brand. You see the block of 500 grams. I know some guys just pinch some off and load the pipe, wait for it to sort of conform to the bowl, maybe an hour or two, and then light up. I've done that but it is hard to get lit and going, and if it is a tobacco that is often smoked who wants to wait.
So I roll it out as illustrated and stuff it in an old Dunhill tobacco jar. Old school tobak in an old school jar. I start in the center of the brick, getting the moistest part down in the bottom of the jar. Work out to each end and top off the jar with the drier ends. Keeps the tobak moist throughout. 500 grams fills the jar nicely.
Some might say why not just get a ready rubbed ? Well taking pieces of flake and rolling them out between the palms is not that difficult and AFAIK there is no ready rubbed 'like' Rum Flake.
This is NOT an aromatic, though it does have a light topping of rum. No alcohol taste, but a delicious flavor. This is a Lake District tobacco, and is strong in nicotine. This was my all day, every day smoke for years. Enabled me to quit a 36 year habit of non filtered Camels. Now Robusto has become my all day smoke, with Rum Flake and Dunhill Early Morning Pipe also indulged in daily, but only occasionally.
The smoking lamp is lit

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
