NEVER underestimate the impact of one good man, with one good rifle. Sorry for being off topic, but this guy amazes me. Now, I need to pick a pipe and tobacco to start my day!!

Getting off topic is a sort of a salt of the earth for this thread.
That is interesting, but i had a chance to meet mr Häyhä. That must have been about 1990 or so, while i still was in the army, long before my navy days. He was a special guest of honor in our independence day celebrations.
I got an impression that he was humble and modest, true gentleman who didn't want to remember too much about the times of war. That seems to be very common attitude among WW2 vets here.

People of my age surely all have some older family members who served in those sad times. We've also heard some stories when we were young. All the vets are highly respected.

Another vet who probably has some international reputation too is Lauri Törni who later died in Viet Nam while serving in US special forces.

And of course C.G.E.Mannerheim who has still voted the most important Finn there ever was. While Hitler wanted Finns to close the siege of Leningrad and cut the supply lines, Mannerheim was the man who said the legendary answer to Führer: I take no orders from corporal.

Certainly no discussion of freakish snipers would be complete without mention of Carlos Hathcock. Although I always wonder how a hillbilly from Arkansas ever picked up the name Carlos

Anyway, speaking of hillbilly, my POTD is a Missouri Meerschuam loaded with Old Joe Krantz. I must confess that after years of not smoking a cob pipe I recently picked up one. I'm amazed at how good this thing smokes, especially stout old school burlies. Just a smooth, cool, dry, remarkable smoke.

Anyway, back to school, I'm being beat about the head and shoulders with Karl Marx. Tons of fun to be sure When I get my paper done, I think a shower (complete with a cold PBR) and a nice shave will be a welcome repose.

Edit: A thousand pardons for my breech of political correctness. Hillbilly is of course a derisive term for Appalachian-American

Well, after much thinking, here's my Noon pipe. 2007 Orient 996 in a 2012 King Cutty with a 1937 Mosin Nagant. Classic lines.

The shotgun is just one layer of your defenses. They have to make it past the outside guard ducks first! If you doubt me, try to make it past either, ducks, geese or guinea hens!!
