Seems to be the same here too. I'm not so much after aromatics but English blends are my usual choice. This far when i've smoked indoors (when the weather is too cold and i'm too lazy to walk in my garage) i rather pick aromatics to keep my wife from paying too much attention.
But now it's mission accomplished as i just fixed on of our empty rooms to be my tobacco room. No more damn cold outdoor Latakia pipes.

Blue Note seems to be bit rare amongst aromatics as i think it is not so mild in nicotine as the others usually seem to be. Good stuff every now and then.

Best Virginia blends with Scotch Malt Whisky and a good Black Cavendish.

    I love this tobacco!
Thanks for this. Time to improve my German skills. Hey i could read without translating into English first or without any online translations.

As it is with straight razors, are there any pipe brands to stay away from? I am looking at some estate pipes on Ebay and I am just looking for a cheapie to start out with to see if I like it, but I don't want junk just in case I do like it. Cheapie may not be the best description, maybe 'not so expensive'.

I've had bad experiences with one Chacom, but that was definitely a cheap end model. Probably mid price Chacoms are ok smokers, but i've never tried.

    straightshot,

I've had mixed experiences from ebay estate pipes. If I were looking for one to try...I'd go with an English brand like GBD or Comoys that came from a reputable reseller and was described as being in excellent condition. I wouldn't get a non-brandname pipe as my first. Also, a plain straight billiard is an excellent place to start.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

    just my two pence:
I never bought a used pipe. I suggest buy a new cheap one, here in Germany you get new pipes for around 25 Euro. Try it and if you like it, buy better pipes.

You can't go wrong with Peterson, Savinelli, Stanwell and Vauen low budget new pipes, but if you still want to stick with eBay used pipes then at least ask a decent pictures of the pipe and specially of the stem and inside of the bowl. You wouldn't want your first pipe to take a restoration too heavy.

On the other hand you can't tell much from how the pipe looks if it is a good smoker or not, imho. The longer the stem and shank the cooler the smoke, in general.
My warhammer Stanwell at work is an estate pipe and from the teeth marks i think that some old mean nasty bastard took his last breath smoking this pipe, cursing the world. I haven't cleaned this pipe outside at all so it is ugly, rugged and perfect tool to raise fear, terror and nightmares amongst die junge matrosen und höhe offizier at work but ah it is so good smoker

I was looking at one from a company called 'Premier' it didn't sound like it was a high end brand, but what do I know. Any thoughts on that brand? Also I don't mind putting some elbow grease into making it work well and/or look nice. My reason for looking at used estate pipes is that I hear pipes need to be broken in. l figured that I could buy one that was already broken in for my first. From what I hear, the experience is not as nice with a brand spanking new pipe.
