Personal Firearms
I'm thinking about purchasing my first firearm. I have experience with rifles, shotguns, but not much with pistols which is what I'm thinking about buying. I want semi auto over revolver but I just don't know what would be a good choice.
I want to do some target shooting as well as home protection. I'm leaning towards a glock or 1911 but I'm open to suggestions. I don't want to spend a ton on my first gun and I'm a little lost on where to go besides just going to the range and shooting.

Thanked: 1936Glock or 1911 would be a great first choice. I can't say anything negative about Glock in regards to function, they are probably the best "bang" for the buck...ultra reliable, it's what I bought my wife for her first gun & CCW. I am personally a 1911 junkie & believe .45 acp is a perfect round for me. Glocks run $5-600 & 1911's run $600 up to well over $2000.
Taurus PT1911 or Springfield Champion. Find a used one if you can, that would knock off $100 on average.
How does this guy shoot different .22 ammo? I have been finding out that several of my .22 pistols will only shoot 40gr bullets. As much as I like to shoot, I buy bulk & have to watch out on the weight of the bullets.Last edited by ScottGoodman; 01-01-2013 at 02:17 PM. Reason: Took out picture

Personal Firearms
Question for everyone.
I've got a few handguns that have been passed down from WW2, what's involved with selling them? Would a local gun shop be best? I certainly don't want them ending up in the wrong hands.
Apologize if its off topic or not appropriate to post.
Thanks

Actually after posting yesterday I went down to the range and they were incredibly busy. But I got to hold a few and the Springfield XDm felt great. Upon further research I'm hearing great things about the Sig SP2022.
There's. gun show this weekend as well going to try and visit.

Target shooting and home protection are two very different things. In my opinion. A good target gun can be anything from a nice 45 to a 38 super, or even better a high-end, 22. The benefits of shooting 22 for targets is the cost, their super accurate and very cheap to shoot. For home defense, I know this may be blasphemy, but I am no fan of the Glock. I too prefer a 45 semiauto. However, nothing will make people run faster than the racking of the 12gauge pump. I myself have an Ithaca 37 with pistol grip hidden where my boys know it is at and 45 with a surefire light in my nightstand drawer and my avatar is the first line of defense. A big dog is a great deterrent for that matter, any dog is. Between the three of these I sleep very well at night. JMHO.
