I was bad yesterday. I was on my way to a work thing for the weekend and stopped by a sporting goods store.
I found a T/C White Mountain Carbine for half the price of the flinter I was lusting after. Sure, it's a caplock but it's kinda good looking. So it's in my trunk this weekend while I'm working this weekend. Flint will wait for next year. Probably a .36 for squirrels.

aint nothing wrong with a caplock, was shootin them at the age of 10, musket near as long as I was tall!! Have been learnin the joys of flint locks over the last few years, match locks next? get onto the americanlongrifle.org if you don't have a local blackpowder club, there is a trick or two to making them shoot, not rocket science. PM nessmuck or myself iffen you like.

    Cheers

I had a 36 but sold it. Just 40 grains of GEOX FFF with have that Bad boy crack'n !!! I also have a LYMAN .358 single ball mold if you ever start making your own balls. A pound of powder lasts along time with a 36 too

Now, now; it took longer than ten minutes. Closer to 15 . They wanted $215 for it but I only had $201 in my wallet. It took me 5 minutes to check it out and ten minutes to convince them they didn't want to pay 3% transaction fee on $25 plus tax. And throw in a gun sock so it wouldn't get torn up in my trunk while I'm out of town for the weekend.
And to top it all off I checked out an older Traditions bolt action inline on Thursday morning. The people wanted $100 for it but it needs a new breech plug and the barrel is dirty so I asked them if they'd take 60 for it. They just called to see if I'd take it for $65...

I might have to get SWMBO's permission on that one

    Hey bharner,

No worries!! I've been thinking of a service that will help people and make me a couple extra bucks. I'LL TAKE THE BLAME!!! Send me five bucks, and I'll PM my phone number. Just have the SWMBO give me a call. I have a born with, gift for gab, nice word for BS. Give me three minutes, I'll be the Arse and you will be a hero for helping me out. I can do it, you had no choice but to buy it. I think quick and don't work from a script. Anyone else need an excuse, lemme know. BTW, nice purchase you made, you will be happy with it!!

Congratulations!!! It's a special feeling to get your game with an old school method. Knowing you have one good shot, makes you think before you pull that trigger. Makes for a better hunter, you lean patience and shot placement. Great for you!!

I would have thought that would have been better stated as 'Hoping' you have one good shot...You know how these old guns can get there powder damp and such...
