  1. What was the honing accreditation idea, and why did we kill it?

    by , 09-12-2011 at 12:12 PM
Another oldie but goodie that keeps coming back from time to time, like a piece of sour salami. The issue itself is rather boring, but if you want to get an idea of the concerns we have to keep in mind, this might be interesting.

    The idea

I don't remember who first came up with the idea. On a basic level it was very simple: Some people hone razors for other people. Those other people might not know whether the person doing the honing is any good. The idea was to set ...

    Beginnings

  4. A Closer Look at Shaving Soap

    by , 08-25-2011 at 07:36 AM
    Literally - a closer look.

As part of my vintage vs. new Williams experiment, I made some slides and took a look at the soap under a microscope.

The white spots in the picture are bubbles - the areas that look a little like lather on some of the bubbles are where the bubble is pressed against the slide.

At this point, I speculate that lots of little bubbles make for a better lather. I need to try out a few more soaps and get some more pictures to be sure. ...
  5. Shaving Community

This is an "At-A-Boy" for the shaving community. I have rarely witnessed a group of folks that are so willing to step up and help folks. It is a bright spot in our world.
