    Actually baking your own is to your advantage!!!

    You can slice your own bread much thinner than the store bought. The only thing that I could suggest is to make sure that your loaf is allowed to rise to the MAX so it has more air bubbles in it and should be more like store bought.

    I butchered a hog this week and rendered the lard. For an experiment I put equal amounts of raw ground lard in a stainless steel pot and the Wagner Dutch oven. Both burners on my gas stove were set at the same temp. The stainless steel pot required much more stirring of the melted lard to keep the chunks from scorching. The Wagner cast iron heated more evenly and rendered sooner than the stainless. Roy, Glenn, I wish I could show you the seasoned surface of the Wagner now! Hmmmm I wonder how much Lipitor will I need for two gallons of lard?

    Since it was too cold to run a race with my old widow women and divorcees I got the Wagner Dutch oven hot with fresh melted hog lard. Next I chipped 8 pounds of taters with the ripple cutter and made home made potato chips. A big tub of sour cream seasoned with onion powder for chip dip and I'm ready to watch youtube videos. Wish you were here Roy.

    If my plans for my ride this coming summer go through you'll have to make some of those chips and dip while I'm there!

    My son borrowed my Lodge cast iron Dutch oven so my chili will have to be made in the Revereware SS BUT the corn bread will be baked in my Lodge cast iron skillet. You're welcome to sit down and have some, but you'd better get going to make it time for supper tonight.

    Roy you're going to weep with this one-----> Last week I had to go to the neighbor's place to pick up a package. His wife met me at the garage door and I happened to see a Dutch oven on top of a DOG FOOD bag. I looked at the bottom and it is a Wagner. After a near heart attack I asked her, "What the hell is THIS doing out here?" She told me that they had three of them they used for dog dishes and showed me one that her German Shepard was eating out of. This one was a Griswold. By now I'm grabbing my chest like Fred Sanford with another heart attack. She got a lecture from me big time. Later that evening her husband meekly called me up and asked me what to do to clean out the dog drool so he could get started with cast iron cooking. So, long story short I managed to save three cast iron Dutch ovens from a horrible fate and make a new convert to cast iron cooking.

    And as a man hanging on a cross over 2000 years ago said;

    "Forgive them Father as they know not what they do".

    Are they going to have them soda blasted and start from scratch?

    Yep, he's going to get them soda blasted this week and when he gets them back I'll be teaching him how to re-season them Glenn's way. Now all I have to do is convert him to shaving with a straight and throw that cartridge abomination in the trash.
