I had a hankering for 'Fried Apples' to go along with some homemade Sloppy Joe sauce on toasted hamburger buns.
Sorry about no pics of the Joe's but here's the start and finish of the apples;

Thanked: 4206Somewhere between rain and snow today so felt like some French toast for lunch.
With a maple syrup of course.
We buy the extra dark stuff when we can find it at the local shops.

Bon puts raisins and a touch of cinnamon in her cooked apples.
They are very good!If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

I used a bit of cinnamon and a tad bit of brown sugar in my fried apples. While I'll snack on raisins right out of the box, I don't' care for them cooked. If I'm going to add something I'll add some currents. Just me--
At times when I tell someone about having 'Fried Apples' they want to know how to make them and I usually tell them to take their favorite apple pie recipe, omit the crust and put a pat of butter in the bottom of a heavy pan, add the apples along with a splash of water or apple juice and simmer until the slices are tender. That's pretty much how my mom did it.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

It's Apple Season here in the Walla Walla Valley, well actually harvest is done and everything has been sorted and boxed up.
One of my favorite pies is an Apple Pie and since I had picked up a box of loose pack seconds (supposed to be 40 lbs but was over 50 lbs) I made one batch of apple pie filling and then today I made a second. So I have 11 quarts of pie filling to use during the next year. I would have had 12 but I gave one quart to my good friend Carolyn to try. Carolyn makes those wonderful cinnamon rolls that Tc and I have been sending to Charlies meet in February.
Here's the last batch. All have 'popped' and just need to cool overnight so I can make sure that they are clean and ready to be labeled and ready to store away:
Tomorrow I think that I'll turn what apples are left into applesauce....
My dad thought I was crazy when I had him and mom for supper and served applesauce on his boneless pork chops--however he found that he liked it and told mom to get some applesauce the next time she made pork chops. God I miss that cantankerous old bastard.Last edited by cudarunner; 11-18-2019 at 04:04 AM.
