Oh boy, me too! Haven't thought of it in years. I found out as an adult that most people put pickles in the rouladen but my (second generation German-American) grandmother did not so naturally, that's the only way I like it. With potato dumplings and sweet red cabbage, yum!
Thanks for the memory.

Thanked: 3223Yea, my mother was first generation Canadian FOB from Germany after the war. We always had pickles in the rouladen so I still use chopped pickles in it. I don't cook anything else and find rouladen very easy to make. It take some of the strain off the boss in getting Sunday dinner ready so she's happy about that too.

This evening we had grilled turkey burgers, sweet potatoes fries, and steamed broccoli. The burgers turned out really good considering it ground turkey. Turkey was the only meat we had thawed out. I was cleaning up an old smoker this afternoon and decided I could grill on it as part of re-cureing the smoker. Anyway, I am planning to smoke a chicken next weekend and will post some pics.

It's a hamburger made out of meat on a bun with nothing. Add ketchup if you want. I couldn't care less.
-Ron Swanson
Actually the burger had egg, bread crumbs, and steak seasoning in it. The potatoes, carrots, and onions were cooked in foil packs with olive oil.
The point of the Swanson quote is that a simple beef burger tastes better than a turkey burger, even if you use mix fancy ingredients with the turkey.Last edited by Leatherstockiings; 08-31-2015 at 02:23 AM.

Ribs, deviled eggs with a tad too much horse radish. Fresh from the garden tomato salad. Keep it simple boys.
