Anyways, you weren't supposed to eat a black bit of the snail as that is essentially the colon. The guy was in the can for hours and hours and hours, went from the toilets to the plane's toilets. He ended up flying home and going straight to the doctor.

I would just advise the waiter and they'll let you know if there are any special instructions.
Sea snails like whelks have to be dealt with like that. Commercially available snails should have been purged before they were sold.

I forgot to add that my father saw all the chinese businessmen spitting onto the floor that were eating the snails. The waiter saw that the guy he was with wasn't doing so, rushed over and saw he was eating the whole thing. Explained what the guy did wrong and all heck broke loose for the guy.

I do believe that it was a fancy restaurant in Hong Kong, so some of the worse things one hears about China were avoided.

@OCD: Ahhhhhh, it all makes sense now. My knowledge is pretty limited to beef, chicken and pork lol.

Even colons go well with French pastry. You will be fine, enjoy the night!

Okay guys I'm back.No pics as I knew but I had to at least report my findings. First off though.....love the pizza oven honedright.Good for you man ! I see many gourmet pizzas in your future,I'm envious.

So we started the meal off with a small soup in a coffee cup.it was a carrot ginger puree with herbs and we sipped that while waiting for our food. We did the Happy hour so it was all appetizers. The Ecargot was outta this world but not traditional.Instead it was served in small ramekins coverd with a puff pastry and had butter and hazelnuts and fines herbs. And they were delicious.

Then we had the mussles with white wine garlic butter and herbs ....OMG i could survive on that forever sooooo good. I couldn't stop sopping up the broth with my homemade baguette.

We also had the special which was a platter consisting of roasted artichoke w/ aoli ,a roasted garlic head, duck leg confit mmmmm, serrano ham shaved with more baguette and home made butter (of course).

Pomm frittes with a gastric of vinegar, sugar and herbs and not one fritte was soggy. like sticks of crack they were. I had two glasses of a nice Baujolais, and for dessert a very nice Lemon tart with merengue and candied lemon zest along with french press coffee, fresh cream and lump golden sugar.

we followed up the night at another bar with Sangria and live Flamenco guitar and I sat out on the open patio where you could smoke and smoked my pipe and drank my sangria and I felt like I was in Europe dudes ! Perfection. So there we go 53rd was the best Birthday I can and will remember for a long time. And.....I'm going back to that restaurant in the fall and I'm gonna eat my face off in mussles !!! Yeah baby !!

My son turned 22 yesterday. He's working afternoon shift this week so we put off his Bday celebration till the end of his shift. Mother asked him what he wanted for his big meal?
The results above. Perogies, carmellised onions, brats and bacon..

All washed down with some Riesling and finished with a chocolate Carmel cake and ice cream.

Delighted he put off his late night adventures till after dinner with his family..
    Cheers gents.
And it sounds like your night went well, as well nightblade.
