My preferred spots are a good walk in which discourages most people.

I go mushrooming with my good buddy Ski, around here we usually find the Morels and Calf Brains both are wonderful.

Several years ago a guy (Bob) who worked for Safeway as part of 'Store Stocking' came to town for a project. While Ski is a good sized old boy Bob stood about 6'8" and weighed about 270 pounds. Well Ski and I invited Bob to go mushrooming with us and Bob accepted. (Please note; Bob was a 'city boy' and had never been mushrooming.)

When we got to an area that generally provided lots of the above mushrooms we got out the mesh bags and we all headed in different directions. Ski had only gone about 15 yards and he stomped his foot on the ground. So I jumped up and down a few times. Ski yelled at me; "Why do you always use two feet"? I said your a lot bigger than I am and I can't get as much vibration as you do using only one foot. About this time Bob said; 'What the hell are you guys talking about"?

Ski explained that by stomping on the ground it made the mushrooms 'jump up' out of the ground. Bob called BS! But as we once again started walking both Ski and I kept stomping and in the distance you could hear Bob stomping also.

Ski and I made it back to his truck before Bob and as we watched him approaching we could see him 'stomping' for mushrooms. Ski and I had found quite a lot of mushrooms and Bob had only a few.

You should have seen the look on Bob's face when Ski told him that we'd just been F---ing with him.

    Damn was it funny!

When it comes to hunting Morels, I cover a lot of ground. We have about 60 acres of woods where they come up.
Plus some older folks who let me hunt their ground and I split 50/50 what I find. They usually get almost all of the mushrooms though, it's nice to see them smile.

But I'm getting antsy waiting for them to pop

    It's some thing really special.

The sponge is steamed , so its nice n light. There is fruit inside and on top . Also they don't use icing its pure cream.
Not sickly at all... I cant get enough of it.

On a good year I have seen them growing right on the mountain bike trails.
Yeah, again, if I knew anything about it I would go for some. I don't know the conditions or where to look. I used to fill them with a chicken mousseline studded with black truffles and poach them in chicken stock. Then make a quick sauce with the poaching liquid, a squeeze of lemon, and a little cream and aspergillosis tips.

Knowing full well that you are more versed in culinary terms than I am I searched for: aspergillosis tips. After reading what I find is that #1 I don't want it anywhere near me and AND OR #2 it's one of those auto correct screw ups and you meant something like 'Asparagus Tips.

Here's a quick intro to finding Morels.
    https://mdc.mo.gov/blogs/discover-na.../mushroom-hunt

The weather plays an important part in when the mushrooms come up. It's a combo of rainfall, warm days, and warm nights. Generally, they start coming up around here mid-April to late-April. This coincides with turkey hunting season here so it's easy to remember. There is or was an internet sight that tracked mushrooms sprouting from southern US to the northern US. You might also check in with chefs in your area to see when they are buying locally sourced Morels.

I look along wet creek bottoms on the south facing bank. Spots right at the top of a creek bank, especially where bark and twigs have washed up are good places to look. Once you see one stop in your tracks and start looking all around you. Squatting to change your vantage point can uncover mushrooms obscured from above by vegetation.

This may sound corny, but...I swear looking at a picture of a Morel before you go out helps you see them easier.

Unless I am hunting in a pasture I find that a stick is almost a necessity to gently brush aside taller plants.

Do they like low areas with lots of water saturated ground or something specific?
