I got to sample Bruichladdich Port Charlotte that a friend opened up tonight. Very nice stuff.

How does it compare to their other expressions?

It's distinctly laphroaig. Perhaps a little woody on the palate. The nose is fairly heavy on vanilla actually and there's a nice sort of aniseed note on the finish. That is, of course, in addition to the usual smoky, iodine, TCP medicine cabinet that is laphroaig!

Sounds good. I had a bottle of 15 yo about 12 years ago. I'd love to try that again knowing what I know now. I don't think they do a 15 yo now.

I have been working on finishing off some bottles, and these are two I have managed to complete this week.

Nikka Taketsuru - a great Japanese blend

I have a bottle of the 18 yo, but for my tastes, I do prefer the 10 yo. Do you prefer one more than the other, PigHog?

I'd say I preferred the 18 year old. It's more refined with depths that the 10 year old doesn't have. From memory anyway - I've had quarter cask more recently than 10 y/o.

18 year old certainly isn't an everyday whisky though. 10y/o or QC are both great and much more affordable.

Interesting. I may have to head back to my bottle of the 18yo tonight.

I have never tried the QC. I will have to have a go someday. So many whiskies to try, so little time! (And finances...)

I sent the Mrs off to Aberdeen, Scotland for the weekend so now I get to relax and enjoy yet another iteration of Douglas Laings independent old particular. This time around I went for a more peaty dram.
This one is a 17 year old single malt distilled at Caol Ila.
A very tasty dram, but it has a tad more bite to it than I ideally prefer. It does finish superbly though, with a real sweet coffee/ vanilla taste mixed in with the smokiness

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....
