I got to sample Bruichladdich Port Charlotte that a friend opened up tonight. Very nice stuff.

It's distinctly laphroaig. Perhaps a little woody on the palate. The nose is fairly heavy on vanilla actually and there's a nice sort of aniseed note on the finish. That is, of course, in addition to the usual smoky, iodine, TCP medicine cabinet that is laphroaig!

I'd say I preferred the 18 year old. It's more refined with depths that the 10 year old doesn't have. From memory anyway - I've had quarter cask more recently than 10 y/o.
18 year old certainly isn't an everyday whisky though. 10y/o or QC are both great and much more affordable.

I sent the Mrs off to Aberdeen, Scotland for the weekend so now I get to relax and enjoy yet another iteration of Douglas Laings independent old particular. This time around I went for a more peaty dram.
This one is a 17 year old single malt distilled at Caol Ila.
A very tasty dram, but it has a tad more bite to it than I ideally prefer. It does finish superbly though, with a real sweet coffee/ vanilla taste mixed in with the smokiness
Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

That's a lot you've poured yourself there!
