Well, I went to visit my father over the christmas break. He is a retired lawyer among other things. One of his clients in the 80s owned a chain of liquor stores and was a generous man.

Anyway, long story short, I came back with about 30 bottles of various things ranging from whiskey to cognac, gin to OP rum and pretty much everything else in between, all from his 1980s stock.

I liked the look of the Dimple bottle, so I opened that and decanted it into another bottle as the cork disintegrated. Just had a bit of that and it was really quite nice. I think I will have a snifter of the Cognac after dinner tonight.

I'm not really a drinker, so most of this will be wasted on me I suppose. But I'm sure I'll appreciate it in moderation over the next 30 years or so...lol!

Lucky. Being a citizen...say NOWT at the border! I'd never DREAM of coming in way over my allowance back into Ireland...never....

Alas, us non-Canadian-citizens must pick well our whiskys. We're planning a New Hampshire run next month. Methinks a Lagavulin Distiller's Ed. and Uigeadáil.

Woops! When I said Dimple I meant Bell's. lol! Must've been drunk. The Bell's bottle is interesting - looks like an old bell. Shame the cork broke when I opened it.

I'll try the Dimple next I guess.

Had the Talisker Distillers Edition double matured in Amoroso Sherry cask It's a damn good Dram of Whisky. The bottle I got was distilled in 2001 bottled in 2012. Very good for a young scotch.

Also been drinking my way through a Bottle of Glenmorangie 18 year. Extremely Rare according to the box Not to bad but not something I will buy again.

My thoughts exactly on Glenmorangie in general. It's pretty good stuff, not bad at all, but not nearly as interesting as a lot of other more unique malts. That being said, of the mass-marketed malts it is one of the better ones. I.e. compared to, say, Glenfiddich.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

It feels great being a NH resident. We have a long history of shops being on the main highway near the border to serve people repressed by their own governments in neighboring nanny states. Occasionally, agents from those states are arrested in NH for tresspassing while spying in NH on their own residents. Live Free or Die, state motto.

I saw a bottle of Yamazaki 12 yesterday for $70. We get hosed on pricing here in Canada, no doubt.
