Restored a de pew for my neighbor a while back. They are pretty simple but very well built with quality parts.
The old Zass units were about the best you could get. The new ones are a different story. I've had them literally fall apart on me while using.

One way to tell the quality of a found coffee mill is to look at the adjustment mechanism. If at the crank shaft in plain sight, not so good. The better ones had the fine adjust mechanism inside and can be adjusted after removing the grounds box. Turn the lever/ tab at the base of the shaft to adjust.

    Who knows about gooseneck kettles?
I am looking to buy one, the hario buono is the obvious choice, but it doesnt get brilliant reviews, mainly due to pour rate and ergonomics, but in its price range is probably the best. For double the price i can get a fellowes stagg which gets good reviews and looks good too.
I just dont know if i can justify the extra $65 (au).
    What do you guys think?
If i have time today i might go to a local coffee place and see if they use either and then if i can try one.

I ended up buying the hario after speaking to the guy at the coffee place, they dont sell any kettles but he has one himself and says it works well so the advice was impartial.

    Default Coffee

I, like many others, just love a good cup of coffee.
No matter the cost of the beans, and I'm talking on the lower end. Like 8 o'clock coffee which is one of my favorite everyday coffee's.
Now I buy the beans and grind them myself. Not in the whirly style grinder but a burr grinder. I have one that isn't very expensive. These will change the flavor of your coffee!

Also I use the normal drip type Mr Coffee coffee maker during the week. But I also have a Syphon coffee maker for the slow weekend mornings. This will make you think you're having a high end coffee in some shop in Seattle haha

I'm not sure if I can post links to the grinder and coffee maker but all in all the 2 only cost me about $150 so not too bad for a long term coffee investment

i think there is a coffee thread already. but i like coffee too and i'm perfectly happy with coffee from Aldi's. i don't grind my own but i do use a poor over coffee filter (which my coffee aficionado son says is the coffee nerd way to do it). He also roasts his own beans and has tried all the methods. guess my taste buds aren't that developed.

This is good but if you don't have a bevel, you're just polishing a dull edge.

So, does anyone have any coffee related goodies on their Christmas wish lists?
