Success!!!!!!
I've finally gotten the bitter out of the Espresso
I've adjusted the grinder to the finest on the macro and about half way on the micro adjustment.
There may be just a bit of fine tuning left, but 3 shots this morning were all tasting goodLook sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

Thanks Gooner!!!!! And yes, it was a great way to start off this year.......dang good Espresso
The coffee I used, when ground finer in the Chemex pour over has a very nice nutty flavor. So now I'm chasing a bit of that flavor in the Espresso.Look sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

Haven't updated this thread on my Espresso adventure in a week, so............
I have gotten the adjustments on the grinder much more fine tuned. And am sure before I grind my Espresso beans, the burrs are in the proper position.
This has turned what was bitter and a bit harsh, to a smooth enjoyable shot.
A BIG thanks to Richard for helping me get this figured out. Without his input, guidance and putting up with my questions, I'd still be in the dark.Look sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

As I said earlier, I was helped in the same way 10 years back by folks willing to take a newby from clueless to a person able to help others. They also cleared the air when a misguided person was selling "Snake Oil !" Those same qualities are keeping this as a great razor forum!
A great cuppa to all!

Got to add to my coffee adventures:
Christmas brought me an Aeropress and I have been experimenting with that for a week.
I then received my work anniversary gift... an Delonghi EC155 espresso maker. Took me several attempts and some research to try to pull a decent shot. It looks like most are pulling their shots for 20-30 seconds (for a double). Then I heard from a friend that it should be 7 seconds from the time the first drop hits the glass till finished. Any opinions?

Congrats on the Espresso machine and getting the Aeropress as well!
As to the shot time, around the 20+ seconds seems to be the normal.
You're pretty close to me there Coach, nice to see some locals here in the coffee thread.Look sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

Bad news chez Cangooner today, I'm afraid: my Breville espresso maker finally let the smoke out after four years hard service. The main PCB (control board) is fried.
Any of you guys know a good source for parts?
Until I get that fixed up, I'll be playing with my Rok manual press. Just like having at least two razors to cover when one's out of commission, I guess it's important to have at least a couple of espresso options.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

So sorry to hear of this tragedy.........I hope you find the new part quickly, and cheaper than a new machine.
