Just purchased
Hey guys. Just bought this little Shumate at an antique shop on a little road trip. The box is in pretty good shape and the razor has some rust and pitting but not muh. I really don't know much about value and things. I paid just over 18 dollars for it. Can yall tell me if it was a good deal or not. Now I just need to try and clean it up. Hopefully I can get it looking good. I am sure I can get the rust and pitting cut down. I am not real sure how to get it mirrored up. Wish me luck.

Thanked: 993Barber
Hello all,
I picked up a Shumate Barber off ebay last week for $22 US (sorry, I live in Canada...). I tried to take a pic, but the camera isn't that great,....no good close-ups.
Anyways, its in brilliant shape. Scales are perfect, no pits on the blade or tang. Just a bit of active rust on the bottom of the tang, and some blueing. My plan is to hand sand it, buff it, and get'er done. I did hone it and shave with it though....I had to. I said this in the beginner forum, that it is very comfortable, and once its ready, will be preferable to my new Dovo.
My girlfriend is a much better photographer than I . I'll see what she can do when it's finished.

I just picked up a 5/8 Shumate Austin, Texas made razor today in beautiful condition. No rust or pitting, in nice black scales. I'll post pics after I finish polishing it I'll post pics. Got it for $10 at an antique market an the guy threw in a barber hone and lapping stone, and 1 brass and 2 steel rolls razor complete sets for free. Said he's had the stuff for a while so I was happy to help him by taking it.

My Shumate 256, just re-scaled a few weeks ago. This is my first re-scale. After some time on the BBW and coticule, it has become my favorite shaver. Even better than my Heljestrand, which I didn't think would be possible!

Hello Guys!
May I join the club too? I have one as well.
It differs a bit from those I have seen in this thread, though. There are a few that look like mine but none are the TUNGSTEEL that I own. Is mine another model then, called "TUNGSTEEL"?
It also has a pretty pronounced blade bend - like a Samurai sword blade. I really like it. Got it as an heirloom from my Mom's dad, grandpa "the tailor".
Well, here are a few pics. Sorry for any glare (Ima newb).
I am also using a small, digital Kodak. It's no Nikon, that's for sure. Some of your pic's are so clear in Macro, I drool.
The one side of the tang, that you cannot read, says;
Shumate Cutlery Corporation
St Louis, Mo.
The other side says;
SHUMATE TUNGSTEEL
Anyway, here is my contribution to the club.
Cheer's!
~Phil
