Heres a couple, got each one for $10 locally. A Shumate Austin, Texas razor, and a Peacemaker. Im not so big a fan of the scales on the peacemaker, I may change them when I finish my other blades. I have a Shumate Barber on the way, so Ill post the pics soon. Sorry for the quality of the pics, my lense isnt working right.

Great score and great price! I don't know anyone that likes those bamboo scales. I tried avoiding them w/o luck. Now I have a few but they will stay that way as long as they function w/o breaking. LOL

Yeah, they're plastic bamboo. I've got 20+ blades needing scales before I start replacing something that works. Both blades have a mirror finish but in the pics they have oil on them which make them look dull.

Thanked: 5I only discovered this thread today. My first Shumate is winging its way toward my place as I write. I bid on it without knowing anything about the brand (I assumed it was made in Japan.) It satisfied my requirements of being rust free, without much wear, and that nobody bid against me. I like the faux bamboo scales! If it dates from the 20s, then it's very appropriate to the period.
I'll post a pic once it gets here.
Beauty - or kitsch - is definitely in the eye of the beholder.
Cheers,

Here is my entry into the Shumate Shaving Society.
I just received my Austin Shumate from Tim who puts these really amazing new scales on it for me. It shaves incredibly smooth and now dresses like a true Texan too. Thanks Tim

Thanked: 0Shumate "Master"
Can one of you who is a "master" of the Shumate models tell me where the Shumate "Master" falls into the line-up? I was given this family razor, found in an attic, and am curious to know more about it.
It has golden-pearl scales that look new, it closes centered with tight pins, but it is also quite rusted.
If I get the camera charged up I will post a picture.
Thank you,
JR

Thanked: 0Shumate club
First of all hello to everyone.
I have a Shumate 'Glide' but I can't find any info. on it.
Does anyone know if the 'glide' stands for its smoothness?
ie/ the way it just glides off the whiskers.
Any info. would be great.
ThanksLast edited by datel; 10-20-2010 at 02:04 AM.
