Well I finally got the Shumate "Tonso" done tonight. As many know I'm not big on high polish and this is no exception I got it off a member here in the bay area last year at our get together (for the life of me I can't recall the name ) Anyway it has a bit of hone ware but not enough to give me fits, as well as some rather arnery rust spots. The wire wheel took care of the rust and ended up with a few small pits, not bad for how it was looking. The edge was a bit rusty as well and took about twice as long as I'm used to on the 1k shapton GS to get past. A few passes on the Shapton GS 3k and straight to the 16k shapton with no issues and rather quickly. I finished it off on the Cr02 HA leather strop.
Check out the pics... I will be shaving with it tomorow

Well I took it for a test drive tonight While it is not as big as I like in a blade it shaved every bit as I expected a Shumate to shave Very nimble and light and took a fast edge. Hard to argue against any Shumate so far

Found my 3rd Austin Shumate. These suckers are one of the rarest of the rare I think. I think i have all of them. My other 2 are worth saving but this one honestly looks like it has never been honed outside of the factory. Needs a little cleanup and the scales are broken. So, I am making some black linen micarta scales in the same shape as the factory scales to preserve the look. Should be looking really good soon.
