Thank you Jody, for your kind and warm words! I sincerely hope you will visit Perugia and Umbria again: there is still so much food and wine to be enjoyed here!
By the way: Mastro Livi too would be happy to see you again and he is always saying hi to you. He is now renovating his workshop and I am sure you would not believe how it has changed!

Take care my friend and always enjoy magnificent shaves with your Mastro Livi razors!

That's very nice to admire your Mastro Livi here and it would also be great if you could post pictures in Mastro Livi Club thread too.
Damasteel is amazing for shaving and it certainly is among my favorite ones! As for the edge, as far as I can tell, all of Mastro Livi razors hold the edge for a very long time! My Damasteel, which I bought more than one year and a half ago is still keen and sharp like the first day. I have never honed or passed on chromium oxide so far.

Well it's exactly one year since I had my very first Mastro Livi shaving experience and what an experience it was. I'd thought it most fitting that I honour that occasion with my Birthday SOTD.

After a year of weekly/fortnightly use this razor just gets better and better. It really does fit my hand like a glove and the edge is smooth and sweet. An absolute pleasure to use. My most favourite razor (and I've got some real beauties to compete with it for sure).

Antonello I really would love to come back and visit again, perhaps in the Spring time.

Here it takes a day of work and is achieved by layering several sheets of different steels which are then forged together. If you looking for a great razor for your shaved that remain 'with you for life, you can choose any one done by Mastro Livi. If you are looking for a really masterpiece I think that damask carbon steel or sanmai is the best.
The properties of damasteel are just the same as of the individual components. No matter how much work it takes to do the forgewelding, they are just 2 knife steels, with all the properties of the individual steels. The pattern welding doesn't give it magical quantities. The ONLY reason for the pricedifference is the amount of work needed to achieve those aesthetics. There is NO functional difference compared with the steel he begins with.

It would certainly be great to see you again here in Perugia and, yes, never say never!
Your razor and shave set still look gorgeous and magnificent, even if it is in a picture and, I can tell for sure, no picture would do justice to your stellar razor!

    Happy birthday, Jody!

I am not an expert in welding, forging and things like this, so I am sure you are right and I have no doubt you are.
What I see and can tell is how good a Damasteel straight razor is or, I should say, how good it shaves for me and what feedback I get from the razor in shaving.
I am sure there is no functional difference compared to each steel used in making a Damasteel, but I can tell it just feels different that other razors, including RWL34 which is a stainless steel I love too.

From a functional point of view I agree with you Bruno, all made by Mastro Livi razors are extremely effective. On my skin known that the grades are different, some more 'soft, others more' aggressive. Generally carbon steels are known to be more 'sweet, but the RWL34 is inox steel and also manages to be very sweet. The damasteel for me instead maintains all the characteristics of stainless steel, effective and aggressive.

What I love about this razor is the smell of the scales. Juniper wood with its very intense aroma really adds an extra pleasure to the Mastro Livi experience. Not to mention the smoothness of this carbon Damascus steel, personally made by Mastro Livi and made of a total of 100 layers. Smooth, very smooth, absolutely pure velvet, it is a joy to shave with. And, yes, the aroma of juniper wood is absolutely wonderful!
