Robert, just curious what cleaning process you use on your brushes. I might give it a try on a couple of mine.

Just a quick DE head shave tonight. I'm really glad I aquired myself a few DE razors. They're a lot of fun to use for the head shaves. 2 passes and I'm shiny smooth.

Post Week of August 14 SOTD - Thursday

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
    Brush: 22mm Vulfix Super Badger
Razor: 13/16" Kikuteru Frameback, Spike Point
Strop: 30/45/50 (Neil Miller Linen / Imperial Horsehide leather / Imperial Cordovan leather)
Überlather: CarrieM "Bay Rum" Shave Creme + Ogallala "Bay Rum / Sweet Orange" Shave Soap + Glycerin
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer
After Shave Splash: Ogallala "Bay Rum / Sage / Peppercorns" AS
Cologne: Ogallala "Bay Rum" (Double Strength) EdC
Results: A delightful shave this morning. Despite it being a wintery scent for me, the Ogallala provided a wonderfully enjoyable lather to be cherished even on this fine summer day...Moist and thick all the way to its core. And this Japanese frameback was the icing on the cake. My face is glowing just like the day I was born.

Have a SUPER Thursday gentlemen. Make it count.

Michael: I have my fingers crossed for you for Friday. I am sure the news will be great

Tom: That's a Katana...I bought this sword in Tokyo in the early 90s...It was made by a master swordsman who had some very old samurai swords. They blunted it. The funny thing is, I was carrying this in the plane with me and no one said anything

Grant: Here's the regimen I use to clean my brushes...I emailed it to Rene some time ago. It's a little involved, but the results are well worth it.

    1. Dissolve 5-10 grams of Borax (20 mule or some other brand) in filtered or distilled water in a lathering size bowl
    2. Put your brush in it (try to expose just the bristles and not handle) and agitate every 30 seconds or so for 5-10 minutes. This essentially exchanges the Ca/Mg ions in the soap scum on the brush (from the lather + hard water) with Na (sodium) ions. This makes the fats dissolve better in water (the Na salts of the fats are easier to dissolve that the Mg/Ca salts. Think of soap scum).
    3. Shake out excess water/borax mixture from your brush
    4. Use a dish washing liquid (like Palmolive or Dawn) and squirt a few drops of it onto the brush...work it into a nice lather and use a sift tip toothbrush (that you don't need anymore) and get into the nooks and crannies (around the knot etc...)
    5. Rinse out the lather-ish mess under warm water in the sink and make sure it is all rinsed out.
    6. (optional): I rub some hair "leave-in" conditioner on bristles and leave for 5 minutes. Rinse it out at the end.
    7. Fill the bowl with filtered or distilled water and add ~15-20% (by weight...just eye ball it) white vinegar. I also add some Glycerin to it.
    8. Put your brush in it (bristles only) and make sure the solution gets around all the bristles. Let sit in this solution for 5 minutes or so with periodic shaking and agitation. Vinegar is also a good soap scum cleaner (like Borax)
    9. Shake out excess and thoroughly rinse under warm water (filtered cold water preferred), followed by clean, filtered water. Do it long enough until the vinegar-ish smell is almost gone
    10. Fill the bowl with filtered water again (clean) and add 5-10 mls of Glycerin to it. Mix well into solution as Glycerin is viscous.
    11. (optional): you can add your favorite EO too. I have 7 different EOs that I use often alone or in combination.
    12. Immerse brush in it (bristles only) for as long as you wish (usually 5-10 minutes is enough).
    13. Shake out excess, rinse well and dry brush thoroughly using a clean face towel
    14. Let air dry
    15. Have fun using your new soft and clean brush

    Default Thursday

A lazy day today. No workout, no nothing. Just relaxing and playing with the pup.

    Pre-Shave: A long relaxing shower
    Brush: Simpson Polo 12, 2-band
    Razor: Revisor 8/8", Müngstener Brücke
Strop: Kanayama #90000, tri strop. 30/30/40
    Soap/Cream: Truefitt&Hill 1805 Shaving cream
    Scuttle:Schwarzweisskeramik, Large White
    Astringent: Osma Alum
    After shave Balm: Truefitt&Hill 1805
