You know what, I was going to use only La Toja, but then I answeared a thread (not here) about Ogallala soaps and I thought "why not mix two soaps?" It worked great! Really, this was a sweet combo and I loaded with the same brush and then rinsed the soaps off with water
I like the way you think Dom ;-)

Seriously though, this soap is good! I have not tried any of the other fragrances, but the Chianti Lavender is the perfect lavender blend for me. Very light, but not synthetic which is what is important to me lately.

Pax is good, thanks for asking! He did come down with a little cold, so we are just giving him extra attention, but he is all good!!!
    LOOOOOOL

PS: Sorry about Pax' cold....but, he sounds like a tough little boy...and of course all that TLC he's getting from his parents' cannot hurt

I do have his barber's hone and his PHIG already though!
Wowwww...talk about a heirloom. I bet you're sitting on pins and needles. That chest is bound to have some nice stuff in it. Christmas may come early this year. I am eagerly waiting to see what you get too.

I won this razor as part of a lot on Ebay. It was rusted and pitted with busted scales and I nearly chucked it out but I thought today that I'd have a try at cleaning it up. Well its not going to win any beauty contest and its pretty badly pitted but I honed it and placed it, temporarily, in a spare pair of scales I have.

Honing was a fast and furious job, as I removed a chip and set the bevel on the 1k side of my King combo, then stepped up to the 6K side, then went through the dilucot method with a coticule, then a few laps on a Crox stop for good measure. After stropping it was passing the HHT with flying colours.

The 2 pass shave was very pleasant and close with no effort, the edge is pretty keen. I'd kind of hoped it would be bad then it would simply be a matter of throwing it out, but its not so I guess that I shall give it some more polishing and make up some proper scales for it.
    Nic,
I think in her prime, she must have turned heads...Too bad she's pitted that bad. Good call to keep her and make the best out of her. Put her in some darker skinned scales. it'll blend and camouflage the dark pitting/patina.

An excellent shave with the Max restored Shumate and the wonderfully economic Godrej cream ($2.97) which yields a great cushioning lather and a finish with one of my favorites, the GFT Spanish Leather. And today will be better than yesterday.

Default Oh yeah baby testing a new (to me) Kamisori this morning

So I snatched this one off of e-bay a week or so ago by putting in about 10 stupid low bids on some that I liked and by shear luck the razor I won, was the Kamisori I was actually after "Kamisori Karma" ????
Being the "Psychotic Rust Annihilator" that I am, I polished it off and re-blacked the handle and spine,, I might use an older "Blacking" product that I have on the bench later, when I finish this razor up...
I wanted to test shave this one first before I invest more time in it... I sent pics to Jim but he just couldn't make out one of the Kanji, what he says basically {Ue - Up, Above.
Touroku Shouhyou - Registered trade mark But that bottom one remains unclear. Sorry} Many thanks to our friend in Japan, JimR for always trying to help

So I started on the hones, first going to my Coticule to re-set the edge, after a few sets at 7/1 I checked the edge to find that most was doing well, but the heel wasn't what I wanted.. I dropped down to the Chosera 1k and did maybe 4 sets at 10/1 giving a slight push to the heel and brought the edge into the nice even line I wanted.. Moved back to the Coticule and stayed at 7/1 and slurry until I had the nice sharp edge I was after, then diluted out and switched to a 5/1 ratio as I did..
Finally the razor was smooth and sharp with a beautiful haze finish, when I took it to the Nakayama, I stated at 5/1 with a slurry from a very very soft Akupita (sp) nagura stone then final polish on the Nakayama alone, with it's slurry going to almost dry, leaving a haze to mirror bevel and a stupid sharp edge...
The shave: After 50/100 on my Japanese Pelican strop I used a simple and very nice setup..
A rich lather whipped up in my Georgetown scuttle with a 24mm Re-stored DD Silvertip brush using the Body Shop Original formula shave cream.. One single WTG pass and some ATG touch-up left a BBS face... I followed the shave with some Benjamin's Mentholated Bay Rum..
I think my next step is to steal one of Charlie/Spazola's ideas and wrap the handle in SS braided wire...

    Great shave
