Thanked: 88Maybe concentration. I shaved with a razor that wasn't terribly sharp and proceeded to cut my neck. I thought it was worse than it was. I basically tanked the shave from there and ended up cleaning up with my old Fusion.
I usually go back to a favorite after something like that, so here's the lineup for tomorrow morning:
Razor: 4/8 F.A. Clauberg Tonsorial Gem
Prep: hot water, hair conditioner
Brush: van der Hagen (boar)
Soap: Shea Moisture Shave Butter (and Barbasol)
A/S: Confiança Chipre
Result: BBS againLast edited by DFriedl; 04-07-2012 at 12:53 AM.

Thanked: 94
So today brought with it a package from Brooklyn NY. A bar of Mikes Natural shaving soap, Peppermint and Rosemary. I want to do a 3 shave review of this soap so I decided a plan of attack. Today I would use the soap cold and use a cold soaked Semogue 1305 bowl lathering with my C-Mon. Next I will use it after soaking in warm/hot water with a badger face lathering and use my 58 fatboy. Then I will try an Uber lather in a bowl using a super badger and my TI.
Today's run.
Beard 2 day growth.
Hot shower
pre: Bigelow rubbed on the beard while prepping lather
Brush: 1305 Semogue soaked in cold water
Soap: Mikes Natural shaving soap
Strop: Walking horse EB and Linen 30/80
Razor: C-Mon honed by Glen
Post: Alum
splash: Witch Hazel
AS: Pinaud Lilac Vegetal
Ok so I spun the brush over the dry bar for 45 seconds. Transferred the brush, lather, and water that came off into the mug. This stuff takes a little getting used to in order to lather. What I can say is that the glide off of this is unlike anything I have used prior. I had to reload the brush for the second pass, but I am sure I will figure this soap out. The lather is very slippy with plenty of cushion and glide to it. It never dried out, instead it became more of a wet clay like texture that coats the face but comes off very easily with each stroke.
There was one nick, user error LOL was trying to shave over a bump and took it a little too close!
The alum went on as usual, little fire/little relief lets me know I am alive. The Pinaud hit like Pinaud, but not in a "holy crap i screwed that shave up" kind of way, just typical if that makes sense.
result? bbs smooth and a face that feels balanced??? I dont know how else to describe it...just feels like its moisturized and clean. More than I typically would feel with Cella (one of my absolute favorites)
I have very high hopes for this soap and am very interested to see how I can make it preform even better. I will report back of course, next shave! (Saturday lol)
Hope I havent tired you out with all the reading, but I really wanted to do a decent review on this
hope you enjoy and may all your shaving dreams come true

Good Friday
Another shaver rather on the small side for todays shave.
The Solgen might not be the biggest, but it sure takes a keen edge.
On the tang of this thing, it says Chemical Steel, must be something real special
I felt like some AlRaz shaving cream today, and this one is my favorite; the Calypso.
My trusted PJ2 from Simpson did it's usual fine work on the suds.
Have a great weekend guys!
