    MONDAY
    Hot shower prep and shave,
14”+or 360+mm of partly cloudy! Didn’t know when the plow would arrive. 5 hours later I’m cleared. but the roads are terrible till tomorrow.

The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!

    Monday evening
    Hot water prep
Ed Wusthof razor - Allegro Flexible 50 strop - L'Occitane CADE SC - Barbershop pure badger brush - cold water splash - Floid ASB - hot towel - Pitralon original NOS 1960's AS

A very, very nice shave. The Wusthof was originally honed by Lynn. I have only done a light touch-up on the cot once and today a couple of laps on red and a few more on bare leather. The Pitralon is holding up well. For an old 1960's bottle the smell is still great and the alcohol content is ridiculous. However, hardly any sting from it, which means that the Wusty delivered a smooth shave again. Had a nice "hobby evening" today, but more on that in a different topic.

You're making it very difficult to complain about the harsh Central Florida Winters with two overcast days a week with intermittent sprinkles and lows dipping down into the low 70's. Funny, I always thought I was missing something really neat growing up here. I went in the Air Force and after multiple tours in the northwest CONUS, 6 years in Fairbanks, AK, two and a half years in Iceland, I got more than my fill of snow and very cold weather. Needless to say it didn't take long before the bloom was off the rose. I'm quite sure that I could live the rest of my days only seeing snow on TV and in pictures.

    Tuesday

Yesterday I went to work and then was sent home (I have a touch of gastro). Today I got up, showered, shaved got ready to leave for work and then decided to vomit, so back to bed it was. I’m really annoyed because it means a break in my workouts. I hate being sick. Anyway, at least the shave with the J A Hellberg frameback was excellent…

For all you people with snow; it's 34 degrees here today; 36 for the rest of the week...

It has been a crazy few weeks chez Cangooner which has meant two things: not being able to test drive my new Zulu Grey hone, and not having time to post SOTDs. I finally had a chance to do something about that tonight.

The hone worked beautifully. I'd describe the feel as soft although it is obviously not a soft stone. My FBU has been telling me for a few days now that a touch-up was in order, so I figured if I'm going to test the hone, I might as well use my best shaver. And it didn't disappoint! Started with a pretty good slurry worked up with a credit-card sized DMT 1200 (thanks for the suggestions guys!), and worked through circles and X-strokes with gradually diluted slurry until it was down to just water and stone.

Going straight from the stone, I had the best shave I have had for quite some time. I'm still learning this honing gig, so my hopefully increasing skill may have played at least some part, but to give credit where it's due: this is one hell of a finisher!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
