It very well could be Martin. I think it was worth the gamble though.

I'd ordered a gauge to mount in the door at about the same height as the sensor that the thermostat uses for the heating element so I had an idea of how warm it was inside. For years I'd hang a probe inside but I decided I wanted something permanent so I ordered this. It doesn't have to be super accurate as I'm not building the Space Shuttle here.

Anyway this is what I WAS going to install.

However it arrived with the probe shaft bent.

I heated some water in the microwave and sure as hell, it doesn't work. The base of the pointer hits on the inside of the dial.

Amazon is sending a replacement and I've got the damaged gauge ready to be picked up by the USPS tomorrow.

Damn I was really looking forward to installing that gauge today.

    Oh Well, another day.
I used a cheap dial candy thermometer for many years with great results.
It pooped in the middle of a brisket job and I ran to the grocer and found none......
Off to Academy and spent a lot for something like that.
Works well. As good as my old cheap one did for a decade or more!

I'd done the same on the smoker I'd made out of an old '50's refrigerator (used a cheapo in a hole in the smoker). I figured since I'm upgrading this one I that I'd bite the bullet and install one meant for the purpose.

Full set of carbides in miniature scale for the Taig.
Now I can start to take the old Waltham apart and rebuild the balance staff.

    The ones with the replacement tips as follows;
No. Model Shank Diameter (mm) Overal Length (mm) Insert
    1 MGEHR1010-2 10 100 MGMN200
    2 SER1010H11 10 100 11 ER
    3 SCLCR1010H06 10 100 CCMT060204
    4 SDJCR1010H07 10 100 DCMT070204
    5 SDNCN1010H07 10 100 DCMT070204
    6 S10K-SCLCR06 10 125 CCMT060204
    7 SNR0010K11 10. 125. 11 IR

The red ones are 8 mm shafts, fixed carbide bits..
Figure the red will be great on acrylics and bog wood, the black ones on metals.
