Got this W. H. Morley & Sons coming. Probably 1913-1927. Looks to be in pretty good shape. Actually, these razors have a unique razor/knife history which is appealing to me. The 4 Leaf Clover represents the four brothers, Adolph, Sigmund, August and Nathan Kastor. They owned and operated a cutlery business in New York in the latter decades of the 19th century. In the 1880's Nathan Kastor went to Germany first as a buyer and then established a factory (Germania Cutlery Works) in Solingen and began using Swedish steel to make knives and razors. Of special interest to knife lovers, in 1901 they purchased the Camillus Knife Company, in Camillus, New York, which they renamed Camillus Cutlery Company. That company has made some very nice knives over the years and there's a good chance that some of you own one or more of them.

[QUOTE=Uzi;1593969]Two antique shaving scuttles and a vintage EverReady brush from eBay. The first features a fox hunt and is marked Burleigh Ironstone Staffordshire England with an EverReady 150 brush. The second is a mid-19th century (apparently) Canadian scuttle with advertising for Dwy Goods and Millinery. I'm guessing it's mid-19th century based on it being manufactured in West Canada, which is now called Ontario.

Nice scuttles. I have two from England. EverReady made some good brushes back in the day. Many of them had badger knots in them. I have some & I like the black & clear acrylic ones best.

Slide rules! Have a pair of Keuffel+Esser log log duplex decitrig models incoming - a 4181-1 (5" scale all-plastic pocket model) and 4081-3 (10" scale plastic over mahogany standard model). My dad taught me how to use one when I was 8 years old, and I'm getting back into it after finding his old Pickett N600-ES when going through some boxes (this is the same slide rule used by the Apollo astronauts on the first 5 moon missions).

three 22 mm horeharo knots and three boar knots - from virginai chen and ACE shaving (China) respectively. Supposed to be here between Feb 18 and March 4... post from China is slow.

Also waiting on an Adrennes coticile bout from Belgium. Tracking says its landed in Canada (somewhere) no idea when it will arrive...

Pretty cool! Used to have one similar to the top one that an Uncle, who was an engineer gave me when I was a kid in the early 60's. Taught me how to use it too.
Wish I knew what happened to it?! Too many moves over too many years and it been lost for years.
Pretty amazing the things that were designed and built using equipment like that!

I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a new strop from Lynn at SRD. Stropping with Great-Grampa's old Illinois 454 was like riding the waves. I ordered the 3" Premium 1 with optional white premium canvas and a CromOx paste crayon. I hope it gets to North Dakota before my Sunday Shave of the Day.

I used to have one identical to the middle one that belonged to my dad. I used it when I was in college, just as the very first electronic calculators were coming out. Unfortunately, I have no idea what ever became of it.

A few months ago I contacted a newbie who was interested in learning this age old art but hadn't gotten a razor yet. I offered to loan him two beginner razors. I told him that if he decided that this art was for him that he could buy either or both for $20 ea. I also told him that if he found that this art wasn't for him he could just mail the razors back to me. He was overjoyed and most appreciative. He picked up a strop and began the journey.

I hadn't heard from him for quite some time and since more than once I'd been burned while trying to help I once again contacted him asking about his progress and the loaner razors.

He apologized as life had thrown him some curve balls but he was still trying to learn when he had the time. He reassured me that he would never rip anyone off.

Some time would pass before he finally decided that he really preferred one razor over the other and I again offered it to him for the small amount and just asked that he ship the other loaner home.

Today the non preferred razor showed up along with a check substantially more than the amount than I'd asked for.

It's times like this that warms my heart and helps heal the pain from the times that others kept loaner razors and just 'dissipated into thin air' never to be heard of again.
