    Was just on the way downstairs for a shave when I received an email from our own MikeB52, who said this should be arriving tomorrow.

    The Rubberset #3 Aluminum handled brush with a new hairdo, a spectacular Shavemac knot, "silvertip two band knot, 24 mm dia x 52mm loft exactly"...great work and thanks Mike!!

    Missed out on a well worn escher a while back. First one I had seen for sale down here. Thought I probably won't see another, then this popped up a week later.

    A little background before I show what landed today from the mailman.

    I first learned of a product called Inlace Acrylester when walleyeyman made my custom brush for me. While in 'stock' looks, it's not impressive but take a look at the example at the website and a finished product.

    From the online catalogue;

    My brush from the same material and pattern right after being finished;

    While a different pattern the Inlace Acrylester is what splashone used to make the scales he gave me with.

    So it can be very attractive once worked and polished. There are many, many different 'looks' available.

    My problem of living in an apartment is the lack of power tools so I need to travel about 20 miles one way to my buddy Ski's and have him help me. I purchased a specialty blade for his table saw but with the loss of the kerf it ate up about 1/2 of the 1.5" x 1.5" block. And we didn't have much luck with the band saw. On the 1/8" or so slices that we did get I quickly found that the heat from a belt sander can cause any uneven pressure to thin more in one spot than another. So I ruined 1/2 of the block for scales/but it can be used for other things like wedges.

    So I contacted the source and asked about custom cuts. While they had only done it for a couple of customers and they only wanted the block cut into 3rd's or fourths for an additional fee they would cut the blocks down into approx 1/8" thick slices.

    I asked for the first edge toward the saw to be cleaned up so as to have the maximum amount of slices with clean edges.

    My slices arrived today. They are slightly thicker than 1/8" but they are fairly even. It appears that a band saw or something similar was used but they are quite smooth. With that said what appears to be the last slice is tapered from .128 down to .078 which will be very nice for making wedges so there's no loss. The total kerf loss was about 1/2".

    So I have enough slices to make scales for 3 razors + the tapered piece and all for a $4.00 cut charge on top of the purchase price and shipping for a total of $20.90.

    Here they are;

    You will find these products and the special customer service here:

    Big Blanks - Woodturningz

    Awhile back I asked and they do ship to the Great White North

    The Custom Cut Option isn't listed at the site so you would need to contact customer support and ask for help. The gentleman who helped me was named Fritz.

    I for one found the custom cut charge Very Reasonable! And Very Much Appreciated

    Due to the possible warpage after cutting they do not custom cut their wooden blocks/which I find understandable.
