Roy, I'm so happy with these two little ones. They are true blessings.
It's my 21 year old that gives me more crap than these 2 combined!!!
Good thing the 25 yr old lives states away lol. No he turned out real good. Has an awesome job that he can't get in any trouble or he's fired. And the $$$$ he makes......he's walking the line with a smile
Mike glad to hear you were able to grill out there today, it does feel good don't it

Thanked: 4827B52 I am sorry I missed the BBQ.
Roy, that bucket trick looks like top of the line recycling.
I got going through my horn stash and I think I am going to make new ones.
Perhaps when I go to Canada in a little over a week I will look for some hair dye then.
If it was the back scale that was boring honey horn I would have likely used these ones as is.It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 7@cudarunner........
Your story reminds me of the farmer who had three sons, and to avoid the scrap of the chicken legs he bred a four legged chicken...... problem is, that he never got to catch the bird.

[QUOTE=RezDog;1774855]One of the razors on the bench right now had black horn scales that were a little scratched and needed some love, but after wet sanding them they are not really a match. I am torn between making new ones, colouring the ones I have and using them like they are.
Shaun, I have some of those scales that have lost their color & after polishing, they began to look like honey horn in places which was when I figured they had been dyed plus I read it on here quite awhile back. Best thing is to make some new ones or get some dye & put come color back in 'em.

FWW department:
A few years back, there was a couple threads about dying scales with hair dye and super strong Hydrogen Peroxide.

Yes, if I was here then, I think I remember that or one like it. They sell different strengths of peroxide like they do rubbing alcohol. I could be wrong but I think Zak wrote something on it.
I have save any scales I have like that rather than discard them because I figured at the time there was something that could be done about it, then shortly after was when I saw a discussion about dying scales back to their original color or close to it. It shouldn't be that hard if they are black but if they were brown, then we all know one would have to dye them a little at a time until the desired color is obtained, kinda like using stain on wood until the right shade is achieved.
I have been going through my ivory stash after finishing my Wostenholm razor & I found some of my ivory stash along with the other scales like the worn out stained ones like what are on that Wosty. I found my carved ivory with the blade in it that isn't that nice but that is because someone put that blade in there & cracked the scales but they will still be okay. I also found another Joseph Rodgers & Sons razors with a nicer blade that I can use in them.
I also found these two paired sets, one a Joseph Rodgers & Sons & the other a Joseph Elliot & Sons. The Joseph Rodgers & Sons is a set in which I won one razor & the box in one auction & the other in a different auction but they say the same exact thing on the blades but one is different with a thicker tail & has jimps on upper & lower, the other has none & is a narrow tail. They need to be restored one day.
The Joseph Elliot & Sons has a broken scale on one of them which I will repair one day. I have a box of ivory razors, some good razors & some have broken blades which I got all cheap but that has been quite some time ago.
I have this really nice Ern Ator w/ivory scales but someone put a different pin on the pivot end (probably putting the Ern blade in ivory) which is like the later make Thiers-Issard razors. They bent the pin when apparently tapping it in much harder.. Thank God they didn't break the scales.
NOTE: If I remember right, B52 has a Joseph Rodgers & Sons razor like the pair I have & he did a restore on his.

Thanked: 4206Nice blades Steve.
The restore I did with the ivory tang was a WB actually. None of my Rodgers have ivory tangs sadly.
Not sad about the two I have, just sad I don't have more hehe.
