Thanks for sharing the info Tom. I did read the other thread you linked too. Mine does not say USA on the tail. And by going with what the other thread says, I'm guessing that this razor was made during or right after WWII. So that's cool. My Dad was made at that same time. Ha. Maybe I need to find him one of these razors as I got a great shave from it.
And as I've said a few time before, I'm Ham Fisted too. But in the original way! Ha.It's just Sharpening, right?

Yeah, Burrell was a knifemaker. He married one of WR's daughters, I think.
Those Top Flights are purely C-Mons as it comes down to it.
If it says Made in Ellicotteville or Allegheny, It's Carl Monkhouse!

Thanked: 4206Spent some time with some metal polish and a toothbrush cleaning up a couple of SE razors tonight while watching some tv with the misses.
Really pleasantly surprised how well the Rolls cleaned up.
The valet looks pretty nice but there is a little wear in the pivot that prevents smooth flipping on the strop. Think I can turn a small brass bushing to take up the slop though.
Both a couple of neat travel razors in the re-making..

Wow! They cleaned-up nicely!
No worries about the strop thingy. These feathers get tossed as they are done.
I don't think the strop works on them? Anyone?

Thanked: 4206Good point Tom, and those feathers look like they are a perfect fit. Guess the effort to turn a micro bushing could be better served on other projects.
Thanks for the reminder that they are 'disposable' blades for a reason hehe.."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Seems I read where Feather had bought the Autostrop design a long while back.
I had thought a while ago that as as good as they shave with the Feathers and as cheaply as the razors can be had, wiping all that stropping crap off the top of one would lighten it up and make for a better razor.
Quite a few new SE razors are being made to use these blades.
I suppose the blades are still being made?
I shall try that!Last edited by sharptonn; 09-29-2017 at 03:37 AM.

I've been working on some ivory scales. You guys may remember I had some just like these but they were stained plus the etch was very worn. I never could get the staining out as some of you suggested at the time but quite some time back, I found another George Wostenholm & Sons. Interesting enough, I got it very cheap because of the blade that was in it.
I usually take a before pic & didn't so after I got it apart, I put the old blade back in to show what it looked like before. Then using my drill press I love so much, I drilled the pin.
This drill press is the ticket!!! I got another razor with a blade that matches the ivory scales, so I thought it would look nice dressed in the ivory.
These scales were much more narrow, so I had to position the clamps in a different way & drilled the pin & suddenly the collar popped off, so I knew I nailed it.
Here's the blade going into the ivory scales.
Now I need to finish it but will be very careful so I don't crack or break the ivory scales. Whoever put that other blade in it used collars on it so I need to clean them up because there are some minor marks from the small collars the other person used. I have faith, I have done collarless peening before.

Thanked: 4827Pixelfixed told me to hydrate the old ivory with light mineral oil to bring some of the flexibility back to the material.
