Thanked: 2284Pretty easy cleanup on this Madras razor. No sanding, just a little flitz on the blade to remove surface rust. Putting back together now.

Did you find any pitting under that rust? The spot in the middle looked a little thick with rust.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 2284Only pitting is this spot I tried capturing here, and it's hardly enough to worry about. Especially on a razor of this caliber, although it still remains in its unhoned size. If it were a DD or a full size sheffield I may have tried to get this out.

It's tough, that. Seems you can dig in under the spine a bit and get away with it.
It's down on the belly and the bevel you want to preserve.
Hitting the top heavy, laying off the spine, stopping short of the sweet spot.
Blending it all in. Almost impossible for me to accomplish.
If you take away metal at critical places it is just a knife.
No personality at all. Wind-chime fodder.
I would imagine it would be cool if you had the belt-grinder with the right abrasives, wheels, and skill. Too much hand-sanding on the thin ones never did me any good.
That's a nice blade! Just needs a gleaming bevel. JMOLast edited by sharptonn; 12-14-2017 at 03:07 AM.

Getting some scales drawn up for my FBO. Since I didn't have the originals I'm going with the FBU style. I'm a bit worried because the horn I have lying around after splitting it came out a bit thinner than I hoped for. I think I can end up with a thickness around .090 after shaping and flattening. Do you guys think that will be too thin?Nothing is fool proof, to a sufficiently talented fool...

Thanked: 4826It is a little thinner than I would usually aim for however we are starting to talk about some really small numbers. Go ahead and make them, it they are too thin for your tastes then make another set, unless you had a better idea as to what else you could do with that horn. I hear it makes nice combs.
